I was surprised at how well the film cleaned up. The print looks great
considering the source. And yes, it is uncut. Our own alt.horrorian
Craig H. wrote a very nice review on our site at:

The pictures on the review are directly from the ELITE DVD.

Isn't it still missing the footage intact in the Day of the Woman prints?

I'm not sure. It was supervised by the director as well as saying it was
uncut. Do you know the specific scenes?

Not offhand, they were run through in an old issue of Uncut. I've been meaning
to check myself, but I was hoping someone would already know and save me the
trouble :)

I thought these were re-instated for the Elite laserdisc and DVD?

That's what I thought, but it doesn't say anything about it on the dvd, just
that it is uncut and the print transfer was supervised by director Meir
Zarchi. Either way, for fans of the film (I'm not one of them), it is a nice
disk. Not much in extras, but I don't blame the director for not wanting to
do a running commentary! That would be a tad to uncomfortable for all
involved.

yes, but that would have been interesting to get some comments from Camille
Keaton about her role and her thoughts of the movie! Or maybe having having
someone talking about the controversy of this movie when it was released! But
Elite replace it with such an excellent print and image that I forgive them!

According to Uncut the running time of the DAY OF THE WOMAN print would be
approx 100m58s if converted to NTSC (the original release is a Belgian PAL tape
on Video Power). I just checked and the running time of the US Elite DVD of I
SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE is about 100m53s... Sounds pretty damn uncut to me :)

I'm personally a bit upset Meir Zarchi didn't record a commentary for this (his
most famous work) but DID opt to do one for Elite's DON'T MESS WITH MY SISTER
(a film i still haven't seen).

Well, a commentary would have been nice, but I imagine talking about rape and how
they filmed it for over an hour may have not made for a good commentary. Talking
how they made Keaton bend this way and that and add scratches, etc.! Probably in
poor taste and even uncomfortable for the director!

Neither have I. I used to see it in the video rental sections with that corny
looking cover and never looked close enough to know it was from the same director.
Now, I haven't seen it for awhile. One of these days.

From what I understand the Elite DVD restores some footage (I think I heard 10
minutes!) that wasn't available in the old Media release, but having not seen
either version I sure as hell can't say what it is or even verify if this is
true!

Yes, the Elite print does contain footage not on the old VHS release. It's
basically just some extra exposition stuff dealing with the lead character's
job at the junk yard, if I remember correctly. The commentary track talks
about the extra scenes.

The movie itself is actually not bad at all. It's nothing like "Spit" so
anyone going in expecting a sleazy exploitation pic will be disappointed.
However, on it's own merits, it's a good, decent little revenge tale with
solid characters, good acting and a realistic urban feel to it. Very
little violence or sex, though, so if you're lookin' for that, maybe look
elsewhere. Overall, I do like the movie - nothing great and not really
something I'd rewatch, but definitely better than most direct-to-video trash
from the 80's.

Someone help me out with this one, b/c I would swear I haven't seen the
complete cut of this film since college.
I can't remember the company that put it out, but I know I saw a version that
had:
1. a whole lot more hippy bush
2. what seemed to be an extended castration scene - you actually clearly saw
the stump (sorry guys) spurt blood for a couple of seconds
Everyone keeps showing me different versions and telling me they're complete,
but none of them seem right. So, (drum roll...) am I crazy (no snide comments
please) or is there an older, more complete version out there?
