"I walk the earth, another day
The wicked one, that comes this way
Saviour to my own, devil to some
Mankind falls, something wicked comes"-Matthew Barlow, The Coming Curse
Got back in late last night (my damn flight was late and I missed CAT
O' NINE TAILS at the Bloor - SHITE!).
Popped in for day two of the Fango Weekend of Horrors Sunday and had a
great time. Met up with our own lovely and talented Craig Hamann, who
kindly introduced me to the equally lovely and talented Linnea Quigley
(who's still waaay hot BTW). Met up with Marc Walkow from Image
Entertainment, another alt.horrorian who sold me his awesome LBX copy
of Ferrera's BODY SNATCHERS a while back. Saw all sorts of swell
folks - Linda Blair showed up, Frank Gorshin, Joe Dante was kickin'
around somewhere... I had a lovely chat with Bob May, who used to
play the Robot on LOST IN SPACE.
One of the real highlights was meeting with Ben Chapman, who played
the original CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. Ben is the youngest old
guy I have ever met - full of more energy and vitality than yours
truly is usually able to muster - he showed us photos from his private
collection and told us wonderful stories about Universal Studios in
the fifties and the making of CREATURE. If you ever get a chance to
speak to Ben (I think he's going to be at Chiller in October)
PUH-LEEZE don't pass it up. A great, great guy.
Ahhhh... then my writing partner Brad comes up to me in the dealer's
room... "Hey, I just talked to Reggie Bannister. He wants to meet
you." You see, the Pigster had the unique opportunity to introduce
the Toronto premiere of PHANTASM: OBLIVION last summer, at which point
he made the acquaintance of Don Coscarelli and Angus Scrimm. Reggie
couldn't be there for a variety of reasons, but the event was taped
and sent on to him. "Hey," he said to me as we shook hands. "Last
time I saw you it was on video." "Funny." I replied, "I was gonna say
the same thing about you."
I've met a fair number of celebrities in my day. Most, sadly, have
turned out to be nothing like the people they portray - they've been
arrogant, snotty or just plain fencepost stupid. Reggie Bannister, on
the other hand, is cool. A very genuine, down-to-earth, good-natured
dude. We chatted for a bit, and then he invited my friends and I for
drinks after the show, an offer we happily accepted. We hooked up
again at the end of the day, joined by the gorgeous Gloria Henry
(Rocky from PHANTASM III). Much alcohol was consumed. Gloria gave
Pigster a hug. Pigster went back to his room a happy man.
Monday. Did a bunch of sightseeing... went to the Griffith
Observatory (site of the climax of THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN, although
the plaque there only mentions some movie called REBEL WITHOUT A
CAUSE, whatever that is). Swung by Mann's Chinese, where I've always
wanted to see a movie. Unfortunately, the only thing playing was THE
PHANTOM MENACE (at which point my two friends, both long-time SW
fanatics, realized just what a truly lame-ass movie TPM was - they
couldn't be bothered seeing it a second time, even at Mann's freakin'
Chinese!) .
Tuesday, got the greenlight on the until-recently-top-secret ROBOCOP
movies that Brad and I have been slaving over since January. ROBOCOP
is cool.
Later Tuesday. Got together with Don Coscarelli and the Reg-man
again, this time at Joe Jost's bar in Long Beach. It was great to see
Don again in person. He is a jovial, superfriendly and very gracious
guy. Those of you who have heard Don's commentary track on the
PHANTASM LD will get just sense of Don's warmth. I brought him a few
copies of Rue Morgue (with my short article on PHANTASM and an
interview with Angus) and he brought me copies of the remastered
PHANTASM tape, as well as PHANTASM: OBLIVION. Don, Reggie, my friends
and myself swapped stories over Guiness and pickled eggs (which did
terrible things to the Pigster's digestive tract, turning him into a
walking Crime Against Humanity for several days).
Now folks, I have a confession to make. I've been a working
professional in the film industry for a while now. I'm pretty jaded.
But I am also a huge film fan, and a slavering horror fanboy at times.
I have loved PHANTASM since I saw it as a twelve-year old. I used to
have a PHANTASM II poster in my locker in high school. Reggie and Don
are two of my biggest heroes, and here's me knocking back a few with
'em. Life is groovy sometimes, y'know?
We talked for a long while about all sorts of stuff, some of which I
can tell y'all and some of which I'm not allowed to yet. Suffice to
say that the much requested Tall Man dolls from McFarlane get closer
to being a reality each day. Flood the McFarlane website. Tell them
you want your Tall Man and you want it now!!
As for the comic book series, let's just say that Your Friendly
Neighbourhood WideScreenPig is on the case. Details will follow as
they become available. Also, I'm thinking about buying the PHANTASM
hearse.
That's all the story I have for now folks. I'm pooped. Stay tuned
and watch for the next installment of the WSPig Hour, right here on
alt.horror.

Oh no! You missed it? Sorry to hear that, Pigster. I know how much
you wanted to see it. There are so many cool horror films that I've
only seen on video. Words cannot describe how badly I would love to
seem them on the big screen. Missing an opportunity to do so has to

Uhh...Linnea is far more "lovely" than me. ;-)
BTW, you're right about how good Linnea looks. She looked hot in that
slinky long dress that she was wearing at Fango. Also, I'm sure that
the Pigster will second how nice Linnea is as a person.

Thanks Charli. I suppose this is a good time to mention that I got a

would really care about that... unless they had a thing for Mustang's,

I had one on Friday and it was disgusting. However, I may have been
distracted because my darling son managed to swallow his happy meal
toy, which resulted in a trip to Casualty. After which, I beat him
within an inch of his life and locked him in the cellar.

If you get round to having the Vegetable McSamosas, be sure to get the
mango chutney dip rather than the raita.
Has anyone had the Burger King masala burger yet?

Not that I care about cars or Mustangs or anything....but I once owned a
nice power-puff blue Mustang Grande.....a college girls car. With a set of
Perrilis all the way around it, 4 speed auto trans, 302 boss and a six
pack under the hood.
God, I love cars. Girls, cars and beach music. And Horror movies.
Glad you made it pack Pig.

Craig's Mustang is cool. Didn't get to Starbuck's, as I have an
aversion to American-prepared coffee, though we did have an insanely
expensive dinner at an old actor's haunt on Hollywood Blvd. Craig had
never been there, but he knew everyone in the place, it seems.

He's »such« a social butterfly. You should have seen him work the room
at Merrin's last candlelight supper.

At least you turned up. I hired Gore Met to do the cabaret, but he
didn't show. Thankfully, WSP entertained us all with his monologue on

The highlight of the evening for me was Synthuser's star turn on your
Bontempi organ. He did a spiffing version of 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round
The Old Oak Tree' while we were waiting for Homer to arrive with the

While this was indeed a decent enough insult, past experiences have
proved that if we ignore him he will go away. I even ignored his silly
attempt at quizzing me on LHOTL earlier this morning...please don't ever
respond to him again, no matter what he says. If no one responds, he'll
