Three students are on a road trip across America. Two of them are
computer geeks who have been in contact with a hacker known as Nomad. His
activities nearly got the pair expelled when he hacked their systems and
they are keen to track him down. During a stay at a motel, Nomad makes
contact again and they use their skills to track his location. They
decide to make a little detour and pay him a surprise visit and end up at
a seemingly abandoned shack in the middle of nowhere. Things very quickly
take an unexpected turn.

Not knowing anything about this film beforehand, I was slightly taken
aback by the direction it took. It gets quite intriguing, but most of the
time it is trying to hide the derivative plot with curious distractions
that give you the false hope there is another direction change coming up.
There is also some outright silliness including an embarrassing "Hulk
smash" scene.

Some will like it more than others, but an unoriginal idea is still
unoriginal no matter how you try to dress it up.

Not as far as I know. I was going to watch that one a few months ago, but
it looked so awful I put it back in the pile.

It is also the reason why I specified the year - something I don't
usually bother to do.

I enjoyed it.

Really, how many original ideas are there? It's been argued there are
only seven basic plots:

Given some of the idiots in the comment-thread,
I'd be surprised if someone didn't say that
about the Garfield movie.

It's how they twist them to turn them into
their own that usually sparks interest. When
it is just the standard-shit, you can tell they
didn't even try.

I would have gone with "Gonad".

I loved the beginning & loved it up until the halfway
point - then it started seeming like a Hollywood
live-action rip-off of AKIRA without the fun eye-candy.
Not bad, and good for a viewing - mostly somewhat
recommended.
