well, I can't answer your question - but I wonder how it got that NC-17 rating
in the first place. I saw nothing that the MPAA would deem "NC-17 worthy"
nudity or violence.
Then you must have seen the R-Rated cut. The murder of the prostitute, at
least in the NC-17 version, is extremely bloody and savage...we're talking
much blood flow and deep cuts. There are other gory moments in the film but
the violence is clearly on an NC-17 level and I've seen many violent flicks.

What struck me most about the R rated version is that the "death" of the
mother is much more subdued. In the uncut, the father cuts off her arms
and the camera lingers as blood spurts out. Very shocking scene is vanilla
milkshake stuff in the R version. Also, the death of the tattoo lady is
subdued. In the uncut, killer continues to stab her as she tries to crawl
away. Reminds me of an Argento death scene. As a matter of fact, Claudio
Argento produced Santa Sangre.
