Okay, here's a question for everyone: What's this newsgroup for
now? And more importantly: why?

< I should *like* to think that NG's purpose would remain much that it has been
for some time now, or at least I would hope so. If my undestanding of that
function is correct (and please DO correct me if my perception was mistaken,
just do it without the benefit of a "clueless" button, please and thank you),
it is to act as a mutual support group, explore the many facets of therianthropy,
and to give an open forum for the discussion of that, and related subjects in a
non-judgemental atmosphere. Is that it? If I've missed anything, please tell
me. I've left out flaming folk for not knowing things because they were new or
had a differing opinion or belief, as I don't *think* that was part of the
original intent once the group had grown beyond the limits of discussion of
books, movies, and games with a lycanthropic theme or content.

As to the question of why, I can only speak for my own motivations.
Everyone else must answer to, and FOR, their own. I am here to seek the
company of others who believe themselves to be lycan/therian thropic in
nature, whether it be spiritually, mentally or physically. If at all possible,
to learn _from_ them, and _maybe_ teach them, from what little I have learned
so they have it from an angle *they* may not have considered. To *try* (with
whatever degree of success) to ease both my, and maybe another's path as
therianthropes in a world where being such makes us "strange" by the so-called
"normal" standards of society. To offer what aid I can, even if it is no more
than a kind or encouraging word or moral support to one wwho needs it. To enjoy
the compnay of similar minds, when and where possible. Just watching from the
shadows has taught me a few things, trading e-mail with some of you, other
things. This has let me do these things for which I am here to some degree.
It is my hope to do more in the future. I trust this answers your question?

Now I've done it. :) A serious post. Guess I'm going to have to de-lurk.
Were-card coming soon...

Actually, I think you summed it up very nicely indeed.

Argh. I hate to admit it, but you've just wrapped up in a nice, tidy
little package everything that was wrong with my reply to Bender's post,
and my mistaken perception of his being a hit-and-run flamer isn't a very
good excuse for it either.

I replied to Darkwolf's post, essentially, that I was what I was, and
that to expect ideal behavior constantly was overly idealistic. This may
be true, but it doesn't mean I shouldn't try to better myself. And it
certainly isn't okay to use inperfection to justify one's actions--one
can justify *anything* if one starts doing that.

Nicely said. Only thing not expressed that applies to yours truly is the
desire to make a few friends while I'm at it.

Well, I for one am grateful for your delurking. You've given me a lot to
think about. Thank you, and I sincerely hope to see more of you around
the virtual fire.

I'm fairly sure we know the question by now, yes?

< Thank you. I tried to base my answer on the stated purpose from the FAQ as
well as observation of what was happening on the NG itself. If I got it right,
so much the better.

with a lycanthropic theme or content.

< I can see *how* the mistake might have been made, we've recently had a
serious interest that phrased it in a way that made him LOOK like one of those,
and who is now wondering "WHAT DID I DO???". I refer to Mr. Cocker of the "I
WANNA BE A WARE!" posts. And I will admit to making a bad joke based on his
spelling of ware in my response, I f**ked up. I also sent him an apology for
doing so. Mistaken perceptions be the most dangerous kind. WATCHDOG on the
other hand is being judgemental as hell, and trying to impose his morality on a
group of people he doesn't know as near as I can tell. Precisely *WHY* is
another question entirely.

< Admitting to being "human" in that way is a good start I'd say. We all, at
some time or another, make mistakes. Doing it once or twice is a mistake,
doing it constantly is refusing to learn. And for THAT there is no justification
or rationalisation. We've all made 'em , the question we needs must ask is "Did
I learn from it?" I think.

< Well, I'm hoping that if I succeed in the other things that that would follow
as a natural consequence.

< Then I've already done part of what I'm here for <G>, getting folk to
think about things from another angle. Learning a thing or two along the way
as well I am so this is good. I will definitely be around.:>
