...friends, I hope.
I was referred to this group by a friend of mine, and after
reading a while it does look like a good place to talk - I'm
not sure what the right term is for this, but my spirit is that of
a dragon, though my physical body is human. It seems many here
have a parallel situation, only their spirit is that of the
wolf... I come in search of friends, as well as the serious
philosophical discussion once in awhile :)

A little about me? Well, okay :) I love all animals, but I feel
the closest connection to the canids and vulpines (next to the
dragon of course, but that goes without saying ;). As much as
I admire wolves, I would not try to be something I'm not, so I
come to you as myself, and not a wolf "character"... I am an
artist, I do mostly dragon and furry art, with a fantasy theme.
Like most dragons, I'm pretty passionate about most of my
opinions, but I enjoy debates - they keep the mind sharp ;)
Ahm... I'm a Sun dragon, Draco draconis solaris, I've gold
scales and pretty much your average dragon appearance, I guess.
(I don't see too many of us around, you know.) Oh yeah, I
live in Seattle! I saw a wolf from the University of Washington
here, so I'm not alone geographically, at least. :) I
think I've taken enough space already, so, I will end now
and say that I hope I can join your pack...

Looking forward to an answer,

Howldy!

Welcome to the fire. Pull up a log (It's looogg, it's looogg, it's big,
it's heavy, it's wood!) and have a few v-mellows to toast. Sayyyyy--if
you can get your snout-flare hot enough, I bet we could rig up a pizza
oven! And, by the way, you're not the only Dragon here! Brightstone is
around here somewere--Wave "Hi!" my scalely Lady!

Anyhew, well met and welcome. I greet you with a poem. I origonally wrote
it for the Lady Brightstone, but now that you're here, it fits for you,
too!

Burnished scales of bloody gold
Flank the Dragon's burning hide
Sing minstrals in the songs of old
Round gloomy midnight's fireside
Oh! They who in their happy dreams
Soar high on jeweled lethren wing
The Dragon's joy in all things seems
A sweeter song than sirens sing
And though "Dreamer" they'd likely call me
For loving the Dragon's high-soaring life
I know that such an living would be
Truer than this one's pointless strife
But a mundane, earthbound man-wolf am I
And my worshiped Dragons live in the sky

Good Soaring to you

And many have an *identical* situation. Lotsa dragons around here these
days. Pull up a patch of ground here by the virtual fire. I'm sure
they'll be introducing themselves shortly.

You're not thinking of the underestimable Kevin Conne, are you? Nah.
Couldn't be. He never claimed to be anything civilized, like a wolf...

I was a Husky myself, for one summer, back in '82. I have fond memories
of eating more blackberries than my rated maximum stomach capacity, and
of seeing Mt. Ranier across the avenue at U.W. early on a Monday morning
after a solid weekend of heavy rain. The mountain was so close, and the
air so clean, I could reach out and... *almost* ...touch it! Ahhhh!

(Thanks for the trip. I just *love* time travel!)

Fire? Ah, we can help with that as well, I think :) I'm glad
to hear there are others like me around, makes me feel a little
more sane for a bit :)
*peering around the shadows* I hope some of them come

A lion! Fascinating! I just saw the most interesting show about
lions on TV... is there a mythological precedent of
lion-weres? I should think in Africa there would be, or perhaps
the Near East, like Babylonia, where lions adorned the
palaces...

Unfortunately, no - I can think of neat things but I can't
manage to write them down correctly, so I just find lyrics
that apply to my own situation and employ them :) That's
"Miss Saigon" stuff, there, if you feel like hearing the
explaination, I'll give it to you :) The "Dragon Ascending
to the Heavens" comes from the chinese zodiac, which I'll also
explain if anyone wishes :)
"Dammit Jim, I'm an artist, not a poet!" or something like that...

I'm ShadowFox sometimes know as LittleBit (got two fox selves, Shadow is me
normally but sometimes Bit comes out and she is erm obnoxious)...Both selves
are fox...I won't get into all the Japanese history stuff, but if you know
anything about it LittleBit would be considered Nogitsune *not* Kitsune
<grin>...but no I'm not exactly what could be described as Kitsune either,
just a fox ;)

We were the Kangaroos. And our school colors were purple and
white, thus our Kangaroo was painted purple. If you think
I'm lying, I have a yearbook to prove it ;) (Yes, that's
the main reason I keep it around, I shudder to think what
my future hatchlings will say about it... 'What were they

Welcome!! (the little silver wolf slides under a golden wing to peer up
at the newcomer) They certainly are making weres *big* these days.
Here, have a marshmallow...
Excuse me if I'm not quite as boisterous as usual, have I mentioned I
feel yucky?

The only thing worse than an old Queen with a head cold (sorry Victor/Victoria
flashback) is a little wolf with a nose full of...never mind.

Welcome to the fire. Enjoy.

So, what's a Nogitsune? :) I've been doing a little reading
about netsuke lately and I really liked the erm...
Bakemono? (I'm probably getting that all wrong :/ )
They are an animal wearing human clothing, and I take it
they're supposed to be evil... Also some nice dancing
fox netsuke... that's about the extent of my Japanese
history knowledge (well, that and teriyaki! *slurp*)
but I'm a fan of Eastern culture in general, specially
the Chinese zodiac and dragon stories, as I prolly mentioned
before.

Uhmm.. hee he, I'll take your word for it. But doesnt
the "Fighting Beavers" just sound =silly= to you? The
mascot looks pretty much like a woodchuck anyhow :)

Well, I like fantasy stuff but I've read a good many
BAD fantasy books, I especially hate when the author makes
up some nonsense or other about dragons ;) But I've
read 2 other Mercedes Lackey books which we ok, so
maybe I'll check it out - is it recent?

What a relief, then, that my high school's colours were black and
orange. And since we were the Cougars, we didn't ever have to cause such
disgrace by painting our mascot. (:

My best friend went to Texas State Technical Institute. He swears that
when he was there, their mascot was "The Fighting Oysters" and their
colors were pink and grey. Being a trade school, they didn't have much
use or patience with jocks. I don't even think they *had* an official
school team. Of course, he says, the mascot has been changed since then.

I *think* I believe him... <g>

Hmmm. The school we share a campus with, Rincon, has purple and white
for their colors (and their weird mascot, too). Ours are black and
white, of course. :P Come to think of it, we have one school with the
beavers as a mascot here in town. Some High School planners has a
sense of humor, even if it's at the students expense. *grin*

Yeah, BG was much better. It should of been book 3 of a trilogy, not
book 1. ::sigh:: BDDW, I have directions for the Mercedes Lackey

Meep! :) Someone =does= know what all that stuff means :)
It's a little scary how geeky that makes me feel :)
I've been pretty recently to the page, though part of
the reason I'm here is that I don't feel like there are
many like me in the Dominance anymore. I find it hard to
talk about things like dragon spirituality when the person
on the other end is some 15-year old playing a dragon
character :)

A kangaroo? I hope he didn't get offended by me talking about
our old High School mascots ;) I can't say how nice it
is to find someone (or a whole group ;) who understands :)
When I first realized what I was, I felt a great peace with
myself, and that's much the same as how I feel now..

Just so everyone knows what they're talking about, us dragon
types have a code, similar to the Geek Code or Furry Code, known
colloquially as the "Dragon Code". Not that this is shameless
self-advertisement or anything, but it's archived at
http://www.ecis.com/~ddragon/dragoncode.html, and yes, other races
besides dragons can use it. (Werewolves too!)

Dream well, all.
