Can anyone tell me anything about the quality of the movement (EB8420) in
these watches please.
I believe them to be not too bad but not good either ?
Pick the bones out of that one :o)

I have just bought a NOS World Timer off of Ebay.... What a 'huge' statement
Eh !!

I had to change the poxy strap though - I hate thin, black leather straps,
especially on this size of watch. It really didn't do it justice. I have
replaced it with a blue Oyster rubber one from Roy :)

BB only -

It's big!

Many of those Sorna watches were as huge and colorful as an overweight
flower child from Haight-Ashbury. The movements were pretty basic 17
jewel affairs, but reliable if cared for. The Sorna name is
apparently being reused and and look-a-like models are being issued, so
ask the seller plenty of questions about authenticity. Over the past 4
years I've seen many many many Sorna watches for sale that were
described as NOS. So many so that I'm a bit suspicious about their
origin and wonder if many of them are little more than modern day
marriages of NOS and new parts. It is possible a warehouse of 35 year
old NOS Sorna watches was discovered in Switzerland, but I will have to
be convinced.

Here is a picture of what I believe is a colorful original:

The Sorna name is apparently being used again to "reissue" watches at
least according to this thread on RTL website:

Here's a new one according to the author:

I actually have both John - I bought the first one and realised it was the
up to date version so I then bought the other one:-

What are your impressions.

I've got a couple of those chunky 1970's watches(Omega and Zenith) and
like them.

I like them very much John but I do prefer the look of the older one out of
the two, only problem is that the older one isn't an automatic movement.
I'm lazy see :)
I have always liked big watches. I have a new Seiko SNA411 on it's way too.
Bellmatics are a favourite of mine but unfortunately there not that big.

Here's a big one I forgot about: Enicar Sherpa Guide that measure about
43mm.

While it isn't my picture I have the same watch including the bracelet.
It's now on a padded leather Breitling style strap. GMT watches with
cities bezel are a favorite style of mine.

And here's the much smaller Zenith AF/P with the TV style case. It
uses the original caliber 405 36,000 bph movement. Again not my
picture.

The first one is very 70's John. Nice watches.
I thought I would go for the new 411 so to add a bit of contrast to all my
old watches, plus they are rather big and bezeled to the hilt !!

Yes, I agree - some of the 1970's watches are indeed attractive for
their size, design and color. So much so that the styles are becoming
popular once again.
