Hello,

Please could someone inform me as to what the percieved pitfalls maybe
if i decide to buy a brand new Rolex watch from an unauthorised
multi-brand watch dealer here in the UK. IE,would i still be able to
register my ownership of this watch with the makers database for
instance?

Normally unauthorised watch dealers having otherwise a bona fide
established business cannot risk selling you not a genuine Rolex.
However, all questions relating to officially registered warranty and
after sales service must be cleared directly with the unauthorised
watch dealer of your choice. You must make sure that the serial numbers
on the watch have not been erased and really correspond to a genuine
batch and get the stamp of an official watch dealer on the genuine
official Rolex warranty sheet, with all details duly filled in.

But, usually, before buying, I would suggest that you start seriously
shopping around both several authorised and several not authorised
watch dealers around you and find out where you get the best deal,
taking all the various parameters altogether.

Good luck!

Buying from an unauthorized dealer means that Rolex will not do warranty
work nor will they help you if any problems arise in your dealings with the
seller. It's no different than buying from a private seller with an expired
warranty. I am not aware of any "Rolex register" unless the watch is stolen
in which case you will need to include a copy of the police report to Rolex.

Yes well this touches on an aspect that car dealers have learned to deal
with, namely gifts.

If you buy a car for someone, the dealer will have you bring them to the
dealership to fill out the title application and so on.

Likewise, if gifting a Rolex, the recipient should be recorded as the
original owner.
