Hello,

I've now a Gustav Becker clock and I would like to know in which year
it was produced, or some approximation... I don't know much about the
history of this particular clock, except that it was from my great
great great father and so I assume late XIXth century. In this page -
http://www.bhi.co.uk/hints/gbecker.htm - there is a table that relates
serial numbers to years. I also know that not every GB clock has a
serial number. I could identify "P", "P42", the GB logo and "Silesia"
in the back plate and the number "5" in the front plate. In the case I
could identify "D.R.P." (I think it means "Deutsches Reichs Patent"),
"Karfen-Gong" and "GB". Is this enough for dating the clock?

I suspedt your clack was made sometime between 1890 and 1910. The case style
can help in dating it. Are the hands held on place with a pin?

I'll take some photos and set up some web space, so that you can see
for yourself. Right now the clock is partially disassembled as its
case is in pretty bad shape with some wormholes. I'm removing all
metal parts to restore the wood. Those metal parts are in good
condition, without rust, and the movement works fine.

I guess so; there's a tiny hole in the centre arbor, but the retaining
pin is missing.

I will look forward to your pictures. Since the hands pin on, it is fairly
certain the clock was made before ca 1914.
