My 1988 SEIKO AGS 7M22 watch (the 1st generation of the SEIKO Kinetic watch)
does not hold the generated electricity efficiently. The spec says it can
hold 75-hour worth of electricity. But my does not hold that long; I need to
shake it frequently; otherwise, it will slow down or stop working. If you
have similar experience, can you tell me how to fix it? Thanks.

if you haven't had it serviced before, it may need a new capacitor and
maybe a service

I'm not sure about the AGS, but the Kinetic capacitors have been going bad a
lot. They are also showing up leaking. I am replacing 3-5 Seiko Kinetic
capacitors a week! Seiko has a real problem with these watches and I hope
they are addressing it. I do know they changed the capacitor design and the
new ones aren't supposed to leak.

Scott,

I noticed that you work for It's About Time! I am in central NJ. If you can
recommend an It's About Time! Watch Repair shop in central NJ, that will be
great. I hate to send my watch to Coserv - Mahwah, NJ. How much do it cost
to repace the capacitor? Thanks!

I DON'T work for It's About Time! in NJ. I have my own watch repair shop in
Ohio named It's About Time! Watch Repair. I named my company before I knew
about the other one. Makes it a little confusing at times, but we usually
don't show up on the same web searches.

My SEIKO AGS watch also cannot hold the generated electricity. So I ended up
putting the watch in a storage box. It's a nice idea that watches can
generate electricity themselves, only if it works as advertised.

Recently, I have my another SEIKO watch's battery replaced. After that, my
water resistent watch allows water to get in and it has water vapor in it
all the time. It's so annoying. Now, I have two SEIKO watches that need
repair! :-(

when you got the battery changed, did they do a pressure test to see if
the watch is still water resistant?

if they did then you should have some sort of warrantee from the the
battery fitter.

if you opted for the cheap way out and not gone for the pressure test and
fitted the battery yourself, then the problem is yours.

a water resistant watch needs to be checked any time the case is opened or
every 2 years,

if you are a diver with a divers watch then it should be checked yearly at
the start of the season

I don't think so. It's a jewelry store that I saw on SEIKO's web site. It
costs me $5 for the battery change. Next time I'll know what to ask.

I sent my AGS watch to SEIKO service center. They told me the problem was
not caused by a bad capacitor; instead the "movement" needs to be repaired.
It will cost me around $75 to get it fixed...
