Can someone tell me what the "cld" under the logo of some vintage
Hamilton watches I've seen recently means? The "cld" is in a sort of
script writing, and at first, I thought it said "ltd," which would
make sense, but after seeing some better representations, it
definitely says "cld." What the heck is "cld?"

Thanks in advance, as always,

Hamilton used 'cld' on their first attempt at 'waterproof' watches in
the late 40's and early 50's. The 'cld' series watches were 'sealed
against moisture and dirt'. The 1951 Hamilton catalogue, which is
loose leaf notebook form, has an entire section on the 'cld' models.
Made isvariuos case styles and materials, the models in the 'cld'
series included the "Norde", Reardon" and "Lange" in 14K gold, the
"Beldon", "Nordon", "Brandon", and "Langdon" in gold-filled, and the
"Steeldon" in stainless steel.

Don,

Thanks very much for the info! I really appreciate it. So, do the
initials "cld" stand for something, or was it just some arbitrary name
that they came up with that meant "waterproof?" Or was "cld"
pronounced "sealed?" Very strange, eh?

Best,

Bill,
Far as I can tell, 'cld' was pronounced 'sealed' as in the advertising
slogan used 'sealed against dirt and moisture'.
