Thanks,
Jeff
The stem is held in place by the battery clamp, which must be removed to
remove the stem.

hmmm japlish :)
it's just basically a warning not to pull on the stem while assembling
the movement since the top plate actually holds everything down, like
the circuit, setlever, and battery.

you don't undo ANY! screws unless you intend to strip the movement down,
normally you can see the set lever on these miyotas moving when you pull
and push the stem.
you can see the set lever on this 2039 movement, all these movements are
derived from the 2025 which is the base calibre of most of this series
of movements

so to remove the stem, leave the crown pushed in or the stem's first
position, use a pin to press down on the tail of the setlever (the red
coloured dot) to release the stem, thats it, to reset the stem back in
just press and roll the crown and the stem will snap into place.
same applies to battery removal on these miyotas, the part of the plate
held down by the blue screw is just sprung sideways away from the
battery, and the battery will just pop out, to fit a battery, just hook
one end under the step in the clamp, pull the lever part away again and
press the battery down, make sure the battery is under the clamp.
I don't know how many times I have seen people loosen the screws on
these movements to take the battery out when it is not necessary.

<sigh>........, put the clamp back and read my reply, ok.
Sorry - I did this last night before I sent the original message. I
replaced the clamp and everything is working fine. Will pursue your
solution in the next few minutes.

just to clarify, it is not a hole as described in the pdfs, actually if
Miyota drew in the shape of the setlever as well it would make more
sense, the "hole" is a dimple at the tail end of the setlever, my tool
of choice is a gramophone needle held in a small pinvice, anything
similar will work just as well, just press firmly(not too hard!) down on
the dimple and pull the stem & crown out.
