Very informative!
Also 'Barnish, Jno. A well-known maker of Toad Lane, Rochdale, who probably
succeeded Wm, is traced to 1816.'

John, many thanks for the information, any and all info I can get it
truly appreciated. What surprises me about this clock is its age yet
I saw a clock that was nearly identical in the movie, "Eve of
Destruction." A sort of b-rated sci-fi movie with Gregory Hines. There
is a scene at the woman scientist's home and they do a couple of
passes on a clock that looks almost identical to the one my father
owns.
I just wish I could find more pictures. Do any of these books show
pictures of the various clocks made by clockmakers such as Barnish?
Oh well. Thanks again for the info John as I really appreciate it.

I looked in the catalogue of Gloucester Library. I don't know if this book
has the information you need but it might be worth a look. Unfortunately the
ISBN number is not given. Loomes is a highly respected author in this field,
and has written extensively on regional longcase clocks. They're not a
particular interest of mine, so I don't have any other information myself.
If you do decide to try to get the book, but have no luck, please let me
know and I'll try to find a copy in a library nearer my home.
Loomes, Brian. - Lancashire clocks and clockmakers. Published by David
and Charles, 1975.
Hope this is of help.

Ignore my last posting re 'Lancaster County'. It has just been pointed out
to me by e-mail that Lancaster County is in Pennsylvania!

No problem John, the other book sounds like a winner. As does all of
the info I have been getting here. This is so cool. It's a great
jumping off point for my research. I can only hope to find more
information. I will post whatever I can find concerning William
Barnish.

John
