I need some information on the subject winder. I have found three different places to buy one. S. LaRose sells an Ollie Baker "Style" made in Tennessee.  Another is called the Accu-Winder Main Spring Winder "Formerly The Ollie Baker" made in Arizona.  And another (same name as the subject) is made by Lou Williams in Michigan.  As a new in apprentice in horology I would appreciate some opinions and advice.

Thanks,

Barry

Barry,

There is only ONE place that sells the original Ollie Baker
mainspring winder because they actually purchased the rights to
manufacture and distribute the original.

The following file is available at my Web site under the main
FTP Web links (webftp.shtml or netftp.shtml) at:

The file can also be accessed via FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
through both of my FTP sites which are:
("webcom.com/pub/z4murray/main" or "ftp.netcom.com/pub/mi/mikem").

The file name is matclock.mcc.

Sells the original Ollie Baker Spring winder.

As far as which winder is better I cannot personally say but the
Ollie Baker seems to be the name that represents the best in most
people's opinions.

I've had good success with International Dial Co., Inc. 58 W.
Sugartree St. Wilmington, OH 45177
937-382-4535
Call them and tell them you want to set up an account. They offer
either net 30 or monthly billing.

DO NOT try Dial-a-Tron in Kansas City!! I've had some good work and
some real sloppy work from them; their quality is inconsistent.
Obviously, that's why I'm using Int'l Dial now. Also, their prices
are very reasonable.

I've had mixed results with International. They will however redo a
dial if you complain. But it's a hassle. The best and most consistant
I have dealt with is:

Kirk-Rich Dial Co.
404 West 7th St.
Los Angeles, CA 90014
(213) 626-6849

You will have to remove the dial, or have it done if you can't, as
they don't want to take the whole watch. Give them explicit
instructions. Don't leave out anything. If you want Swiss under the 6,
tell them so. Don't assume they'll do it.

Good luck,

JEG
