Today I had to bring my Schaublin 102 lathe home from the storage area
its been for the last 3 yrs. Its a split bed lathe mounted on the
factory metal base, internal motor, multiple speeds. All and all, in
pretty decent shape. Only problem..it has no carriage, no
tailstock..nada..just the bare ways. I do however have a full set of
metric and fractional collets. It seems the previous owner moved his
factory and lost the top end...sigh.

The head stock has two Zerk fittings above the spindle bearings. Are
these supposed to be used for grease or oil? I for the first time, ran
the motor, and the spindle bearings were a bit noisy, so not having
any grease gun suitable for oil, gave them a small shot of very light
grease, which quited the bearings down. However, not unexpectedly, the
headstock warms up noticably after running it over 2500 rpm for 15
minutes. This is typical of spindle bearings that have been over
greased.

Anyone out there have any lubrication info on this lathe/headstock? I
can displace the existing grease with oil, if need be, if oil is
proper. Ive no data, nor could I find any info on the net.

If anyone has any parts or pieces for this fine old lathe, particulary
a carraige/compound, please let me know. If worst comes to worse, I
might be able to machine my own, but would rather trade for what I
need.

Here is a picture of the lathe. (second one down the page. It has the
belt shifter, etc.)

If anyone in California wants this lathe.. Im amiable to some sort of
equitable trade. I need this like I need a third thumb...but it is
cute..and will make nifty small parts if I ever get the way
stuff..sigh.

Thanks

Gunner, who once again, has ANOTHER damned project to work on..sigh...

Schaublin will be able to supply all the info you need, plus any
spares if you drop them a note - they will also tell you who the
distributor is in the US.

Absolutely oil only, and light oil at that. Schaublin made several versions
of the 102 lathe. Some were designed for higher speeds, about 4000 rpm, I
think. Some of those were fitted in the lube ports you mentioned with hoses
to deliver misted lubrication for cooling as well as lube.
