There is also a class that has been running continuously for at least
20 years by the Arlington School System which is south of Poughkeepsie,
NY which has a basic and advanced group. This class is taught by one

Horology, consisting of Preliminary, Intermediate and Final
grades. Three subjects are studied in each grade: Theory of
Horology, Technical Drawing and Practical work. Additionally,
students in the last two years submit a portfolio of work that

watchmaking. Membership in AWI is now $70 per year and $1000 for a lifetime
membership. AWI is not a correspondence school, but they do offer "bench
courses" in different cities in the US from time to time. The AWI school at
Harrison, Ohio is a better value. It's same price as the bench course ($250)
and you get 5 days instruction as opposed to 2 days with the bench course.

Some updates are needed to the info you posted below.
AWI raised its dues to $70/year last year. The correspondence course is on
hold. They are not accepting new students at this time.
NAWCC also raised its dues, but only last month. They were $45/year, not
$40/year, and are now $50/year. Tom Bartels is no longer the Executive
Director; that is now Nancy Connelly.

Gareth's was W7 now W10 Downstairs Computer
They even have a residential course where you make a watch and then
leave with it as your own possession.
For clock and watch making, they have the DLC home study course.
