Does anybody know the history of the Indian company's HMT Ranjit
mechanical automatics? They show day and date.

I am told by a watch seller in India that HMT don't manufacture them
any more. I am wondering when that started and stopped making them.

The HMT web page is hopeless, and the contact link is broken.

HMT does make the watches. They are not that popular any more due to
the arrival of the quartz family and Titan's marketing. The hand-
winding movement that hmt uses is their own. The automatic movement is
an old citizen movement that they purchased from citizen and now make
it themselves. It has extremely poor marketing department (I doubt if
it has one !!! ). But their watches are worth the buy. Very similar to
the Poljot family. They are build like tanks to last tropical weather
and sweaty wrists. If you have ever owned anything from poljot or
Vostok military line, you will know what I am talking about. I still
have my grandpa's watch which works just like a new one would. The
only problem of these watches is a short power reserve system, you
have to wind them every 24-30 hours.
