Paul Ditisheim passed away in 1945 but what happened to his watch
company? Shugart states: "In 1892 Paul Ditisheim founded is own firm
which later became Vulcain." Ditisheim had something to do with Vulcain
but all those La Chaux de Fonds guys had something to do with each
other. I have several Ditisheim watches and they're all 1930's
technology or earlier. The latest looking movement is in this one

Any futher information?

Hi Rich,

This site lists Maurice D. as the founder of Vulcain, not Paul.

Paul is given as the founder of Solvil & Titus

http://www.ozdoba.net/swisswatch/foundation_data.html

See for example this Titus watch

http://www.cjbalm.com/watches/watch142.htm

Solvil et Titus are still around (at least the name is), sold (and made?) in
Asia. The actor Chow Yun Fat, star of Crouching Tiger, starred in a series
of commercials for them a few years ago which is very well known to Asians.

They are owned by Stelux, also owner of Cyma and Universal Geneve.

How you get from the classic Solvils to today's brand I dunno.

Hello Jack,

Fancy meeting you here. I was aware of Solvil et Titus but didn't
realize they were Asian. The Solvil et Titus watches on Ebay are damn
ugly. Paul Ditisheim had Titus and Ditis as lower line watches. Solvil
was his design name for in house movements. The one Ditis I examined
was a chrome case, steel back chrono with, IIRC, a Landeron
movement.

Shugart also has Ditisheim as a maker of novelty watches. I've never
seen a Ditisheim that I would describe as a novelty watch. Unless, of
course, you consider highly decorated woman's watches to be novelty watches.

Ewwww. That's about as nasty as you can get.
