Last week I had occasion to try out my Freshly completed engine conversion project. It is a S-2000 engine and gearbox in a 1300 pound Triumph
Spitfire race car.

Trust me on this, "It is very scary" Imagine having the acceleration of a Super Bike in a car and then double it!

It took me 3 hours to get the smile off my face!!!

Don't know, I don't drag race it! And it has no Speedometer!

I got tired of being beaten in SCCA autocross competition by other cars having bigger engines than the 110 hp lump I previously had. As soon as I get
the throttle response sorted out, I should have no problem being competitive (If I am up to handling all that power, that is)!

The construction of the car has been documented and will be available soon on the following web site.

I have already sent all the photos but don't know when the web master will get around to posting them. I was approached last Sunday by a gentleman
from Triumph World Magazine to do a photo shoot (which I happily obliged). They will be doing a feature article on the car sometime early next year
or perhaps sooner. I still have to send some action shots.

As I have leard from dumping lots of money into my own car, Autocross is
about 90% driver, 10% car... simply an opinion. Have you considered what
kind of class this puts you in? S-Mod?

The car was previously (and still is) a D-Mod racer. The S-2000 engine is an ideal choice since the top of this class is 2000 cc. The S-2000 is
actually 1997. The car was very competitive locally with its 110 hp highly Modified Spitfire engine but if I am to move on to the next level, I had
to get more power.

I ran my first event Sunday in spite of problems with throttle response and even though I had to take it extremely easy, I still won my class. After
I get the throttle response sorted out, it should be a real rocket! Then I will be able to push it into corners and know with some measure of
confidence what it is going to do.

But it looks like that I have a whole new learning curve to go through in testing the limits of the vehicle. What Fun!! :)
