Why the hell are Gay and Lesbian people trying so hard
to gain acceptance in this heterosexual society. As a Gay
man, I really don't give a shit about who accepts me or
not. If someone dosen't like me because of whom I am
attractive to, who I date, or anything else, I tell them to
stay the fuck away from me. "Don't talk to me, don't call
me", etc... I don't need to be around people who treat me
like garbage.
I havn't spoken to my family in over 10 years, and it
has been the best damn ten years in my life. During the
holidays, I recieved a call from a relative, the minute he
asked me how I was doing, I told him "good night" and I
hung up the phone. He's got some damn nerve calling me
after all these years, after all of his name-calling and
insults towards me, now he suddenly decides to be nice to
me, he can go to hell!!!
I also didn't meet my real friends until later in
life, and it was well worth the wait. My "real friends" are
not those jerks who I went to school with who abandoned me
when I "came out" to them. My real friends are the people I
know now as an adult.
I don't need to parade around in the street with pride
banners and begging politicians to accept me and begging
television shows to have more sitcom characters like me and
begging churches, the millitary, and the news media to
accept me. This society will NEVER accept Gay or Lesbian
people (at least not in our life time). We keep asking for
acceptance, tolerance, & respect, and we NEVER get it.
People still call us FAGGOTS, PERVERTS, SODOMITES, EVIL,
DISGUSTING, and SICK. And I DO NOT want to deal with people
or socialize with people who think of me that way AT ALL. I
DO NOT want to waste my time trying to change their minds.
I have other things to do and other "real friends" that I
spend my time with.
I DON'T NEED ANYBODYS ACCEPTANCE, except MINE

Perhaps they dislike you more for the fact that you're rude than for being
gay.

Yeah, imagine that. The nerve of him, expecting you to forgive him for
being a jerk ten years ago. Boy, I tell ya. Some people, huh?

Of course, you don't care if *they* accept you either, right? Hell no!
You're your own man now!

No, you don't. Not as long as others are doing it for you.

And since *you* are all you really care about anyway, fuck those future
generations, right? Why should they have it any easier?

Never? Really? How sad for you.

Guess you'd better hitch a ride somewhere on the next space shuttle
then, or dig a hole in the ground and bury yourself. You may find it just
a mite difficult avoiding these types otherwise.

My point is that we should be helping each other out
instead of trying to kiss these conservatives asses. They
have made up their minds, and they're not going to change.
They believe we are sinners, perverts, evil, immoral,
sodomites, and many are not afraid to call us faggots. Plus
anybody who "bashes" us or kills us gets a light jail
sentence. The only real acceptance we have from
heterosexuals is from a bunch of disco divas because we are
the only ones who buy their records (thats why Donna Summer
apologized for what she said about AIDS being a punishment
from God) all the parading and begging and pleading and
crying that we have done, this country is becoming more and
more conservative.
If we are accepted, then:
Q: Why are gays and lesbians afraid to hold hands in
public(except in Greenwich village)
A: Because they're afraid of getting attacked or SHOT!
Q: Why has our president waffled on "Gay in the millitary"
and signed an "Anti-gay Marriage bill"?
A Because he's afraid that the majority of this
country (which hates gay people) would vote him out.
Q: How many TV Sitcoms star a monogomous Gay couple?
A: NONE! (They show up once in a while and have a different
"lover" each time.)
I am the kind of person that just dosn't give a damn
anymore. I can't get my childhood back, It is too late for
me to enjoy puppy love, the seinor prom, and college
fraternities. I had to go bowling, rollerskating, eat at
resturants and go to the movies alone. So I will NEVER
speak to my "family" again to teach them a damn good lesson
that will affect them for the rest of their lives. If you
call it revenge, then that's exactly what they deserve.
I don't want to waste my time trying to gain
acceptance. I give thanks to our forefathers for making our
"acts' legal. But your NEVER going to change the minds of
people. We should be taking our money and creating our own
businesses and hiring each other and creating our own
Co-ops and our own media and radio stations. But because we
segregate ourselves by race, culture, and economical
status, we have trouble accomplishing that.

Well. after 9 years.....I could file for Divorce. get Alimony,...Have a tax
break or maybe even get married for, LOVE?
I have been with my gay lover for 7.5 years so I guess I qualify. I
could care less what they call it. Marrage, co-habitation, whatever,
what I would like is to have my lover on my health insurance, file
jointly for tax purposes. And when I die, I'D like to make sure he can
have a place to live. Thats It!
So answers on a post card please to this question.
Do we have acceptance world over, or does 99% of the Lesbian & Gay
community still live in fantasy land?
Yes, of course, but...
The reason the original poster was subjected to the amount of criticism he
received was primarily his attitude. If you don't understand what I mean,
I suggest you go back and re-read the original article. It is fairly
dripping with anger, hostility and resentment towards straight people, all
the while loudly proclaiming that he really doesn't care what anyone
thinks anyway.

The question, as stated in its current form, is unworthy of a response.

Well, if it makes you happy.
Besides, you don't care what anyone thinks anyway, right?
It took my dad 10years to come around to feeling that my "lifestyle"
was acceptable. Now he treats both myself and my lover exactly as he
treats my sisters and their husbands, as family. Don't write them off
cause your hurting, their hurting too. It's a pretty heavy thing for a
parent to deal with, but if you continue to show them that your happy,
and haven't changed, they'll come around. Just don't expect it
overnight.
Good luck, and don't forget, being gay makes us your second family (and
we're better dancers)

Well, maybe your suggestions will work for some. But I don't feel
anyone has any obligation to place years of burden on his own
shoulders, in hopes to be "accepted" by ignoramuses. Parents are no
more deserving of their children's love, than are anyone else who acts
abusively. Family is a sacred cow in this society, which one should
not hesitate to topple over and leave behind, should it condemn you
for who you are.
The only reason it's a "pretty heavy thing" to many parents, is
because they refuse to pick up one single book about homosexuality.
They choose to remain ignorant--that's their loss, if they lose the
respect and companionship of their sons and daughters. Families can
be terribly crippling to gays, with no hope of any real redemption.
Many stick with it, not for any real hopes of reconciliation...but
because of the nice "bonuses" nevertheless, such as: parents paying
for college tutiton payments, house or business investments, and
finally, juicy inheritances.
But that is becoming a "mama's boy" and selling out to status quo,
leaving behind the real issues of civil rights. Each to his or her
own, I say...but I do think there are valid approaches other than the
patient, long-suffering role you espouse.
