I have an old (25++ years old) Canadiana 10 HP Snowblower with a
Tecumseh motor (HM1001590130). It runs ok for a while but after I have
used it for a while (20-30 minutes), it wants to stall out. I can keep
it running if I engage the choke before it stalls, but it mis-fires
fairly bad and is tough to keep running... It is an old machine but
still has pretty good power, until it wants to stall out... Each time
I use the blower, I get most of my snow cleared before it stalls
out....Any ideas?

i'd be checking the venting on the fuel tank. next time it does it, take
and loosen the fuel cap. see what that does.

Hi,
Does it have ignition module? If it does, it may be heat sensitive.
Right after it stalls out,see if it has good spark.

I changed the spark plug last year and it still stalls and misfires
when warm...

It sounds electrical, after 20 minutes its warm, ignition modules
failing often do so when hot, see if spark is bad when it happens.

when adding the oil) in the fuel and developed the symptoms you
described among other annoyances.

it is a 4 stroke...so see if the oil is low? I don't think so...

While I'm talking to you guys, would it be a good idea to run
synthetic engine oil in this old girl? If yes, what grade?

* Insulation on ignition coil going weak
* Vents on gas cap clogged
* Valve clearance (Requires diassembly of engine to fix this)
* Fuel line too close to engine, vapor lock
* Dirty cooling fins, engine overheating
* Old, bad motor oil losing its lubricating ability

With a 25 year old Tecumseh, my guess is valve clearance.

Me, I like Castrol 5W30. Castrol cause my last truck had a rod knock, and
Castrol was the only brand that quieted the rod knock for more than two
days.

Starts up runs but a few minutes it stalls out. Let it set and starts up again and stalls. Just put a new carburetor on it does the same think.

Check for the spark as soon as it stalls out. It may be the coil
heating up or some other part that generates the spark.

I doubt that it could be the hole in the gas cap is stopped up,but have
seen engines run for a short period of time and quit and then start back
up after a period of time.

It sure sounds like the coil is causing the problem. Loosen the
gas cap as soon as it stalls then try to start it.

In line with that, I would verify there is good fuel flow to the carb.

Try blowing through the hole in the gas cap. If you're still not sure
that the hole goes all the way through (zigzagging), put it on loose, so
air can get in, and see how long it runs then.
