Hi, we want to change the color of our dishwasher from white to
biscuit. It's still a current model - KUDI01DL.

I know I can get a door panel kit from Kitchenaid at a price that's
not *too* bad. Or I might look for appliance spray paint in the right
color and go that way instead.

But the biggest expense is the control panel. Obviously a white
control panel won't look very good on a biscuit colored appliance so I
guess I need to get a black or biscuit colored control panel to do the
job properly. They're over $100, though.

Anyone know of a way to find one cheaper without getting it new from
Kitchenaid? Or can anyone recommend a place that might buy our white
control panel (it's basically brand new)? Also, any advice on
appliance paint - like how well does it work or what the best brand
is?

Thanks.

No pic....both panals appear to come as a kit....

KA is built by Whirlpool, probably no other maker/manufacture of your
part other than the original style....sorry!

If you post the full model# we can check to see if any body has it a
bit cheaper or not :)

KUDI01DLWH3. The 3 at the end is smaller than the rest of the number
so it might just be KUDI01DLWH (without the 3).

You could try to find a model like yours but in biscuit which has been
scraped for some other reason besides a broken console panel and strip
the parts off that but it is unlikely IMO you'd be able to find such a
thing for so new of a model.

You can try selling it on eBay. Someone might be in the market.

I would suggest you go with a new control panel in the colour you want
( the biscuit console panel is part # 8531250 ) since it is likely
made of some sort of plastic and may be difficult to get an acceptable
finish (which lasts) and just try painting the door and access panels
as they are flat and will likely accept paint better which may help to
save at least a bit of the cost.

You can purchase biscuit appliance paint sold by Whirlpool for their
products at the following link. It will likely match best with trim
parts for their appliances.

Hi Jubi,

The '01 control panels include the keypad, which is why they're
so ridiculously expensive. No real way around it that I know of,
I'm afraid.

As far as painting, I'd recommend the best quality spray you can
find. We've had good results using Martin-Senour over the years,
but I don't think it's available any more. The better grades of
Rustoleum have worked well too, though.

The best advice I can give you on painting the panel is that you
take it off and spray it with it lying horizontally, after lightly sanding
it with very fine sandpaper to give the paint a 'tooth', and 'tacking'
with a solvent like naptha. Take your time, giving it several light
coats rather than trying to get it all done in one pass. You'll be
surprised at the results you can get this way.

The panel comes off easily, 6 or 8 screws inside the door, then it
lifts right off. You shouldn't have to bother with the bottom panel,
as it's prob. best to leave it black.

Hope that's of some help.

God bless,

Thanks to all who replied - Jeff, Dan, Dave.

It doesn't look like there are many cost-cutting options, so I'll
paint the metal door panel, replace the control panel with a biscuit
colored one to match, and try to eBay the original white control panel
that comes off the machine. Probably a little over $150 altogether
with tax and/or shipping, minus whatever we might fetch for the
original control panel on eBay. More than I expected for a color
change...but cheaper than buying a new machine though.

Thanks again!
