I plan to paint my kitchen, which I believe to be coated w/ latex gloss. It
seems that TSP is commonly recommended on usenet, and the paint can
recommends sanding. However, I have in my hands some liquid sander
(Klean-Strip). Should I use it to degloss or is it too strong?

No, it should work fine. Since you're going to paint anyway, test it.
Just wipe a little of it on, and notice how the gloss is immediately
dulled.

As for the TSP, since it requires rinsing, I'd recommend Jasco's
no-rinse TSP substitute or Jasco's Paint Etch over TSP. Check it out at

Stripper is for removing paint all the way it's more work than just
deglossing. and one big mess

IMHO, liquid deglosser is not very effective, and a smelly, solvent-y PITA.

I've done TSP Substitute (no rinse needed) followed by a good primer, or do
a quicky sand with a drywall sanding screen followed by a TSP Substitute
wipe down and primer.

Paul

Thanks. Since I had the stuff on hand, I tried it out (per the other
suggestion). It's pretty stinky, all right. It seems to work fine, though.
Next time I'll try TSP substitute.

(I assume TSP stands for tri-sodium phosphate and not textured soy protein.)
