I'm getting late model Kenmore electric clothes dryer with my new (used) house.
Don't know the model number but is it even remotely possible that the dryer can
be converted form electric to gas?

Thanks,

Paul

Yes, go to your dealer and buy a gas dryer. Try to sell the electric
dryer. If you're successful in selling the electric dryer, and used that
money to buy a gas dryer, you've done it.

Thanks, that's what I figured.

Not a chance.

Yeh, I think it can be done. But I wouldn't want to be the first one to try it
out...

Maybe if you can find a dryer of the exact same model, only the gas version,
and cannibalize all the parts from it to put in yours, it might be possible.
Otherwise, pretty much forget about it.

I'm not certain whether replacing an electric dryer with a gas dryer
can always be done. I was told (by a mechanical engineer who
specializes in home energy audits) that a gas dryer vents from the
burner through the regular dryer vent, rather than having a separate
stack. He said there should be at least some "upward slant" on the
dryer vent pipe. In our case, the dryer vent goes down into the crawl
space, makes a couple of turns, and then runs quite a ways before
exiting through the rim joist at the back of the house. There is no
other way to run the dryer vent in our house, so I don't think we will
ever be able to go to a gas dryer (if he's right).

No - it's not possible.

Aside for the exterior and maybe the drum, everything other part is
different: timers, electronics, switches and all.

Nope.

Just read through all the other responses, looks like there is no hope. But
my question is why? If you are getting the dryer with the house it is
presumably all hooked up etc.

The electrical cost is pretty small, maybe sixty cents an hour around here.
