I have a white no-wax kitchen floor. The model is Mannington Aurora.
Last year I put a small mat down on the floor by the sliding glass
door. A few days later when I moved the mat, there was a rectangluar
purple stain under it. I removed the mat and the stain proceded to
spread and fade somewhat to its current condition as a pink half-circle
in front of the glass door. My impression is that it is some kind of
algae or mold. The stain seems to go deep into the linoleum; it's not
just on the surface. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Can
anything be done about it? Thank you for any help.

In my experience, if this is a concrete slab you have, you could have
moisture problems in the slab. I've seen this a zillion times. Often one is
dealing with hardpan soil. Or the builder didn't use an visquene plastic
under his fill sand prior to pouring the concrete. Sometimes drainage away
from the house is a problem. In any event excess moisture is generally the
culprit. Even here in sunny Ca. <s>

That's why we cover over so many lino floors with ceramic tile. And usually
within 2-5 years after the original lino was installed.

Hello Ann

Let me ask you was the mat in question , did it have a rubber backing of
some kind? If yes you got some problems . You may want to contact
Mannington or the store that installed it for you It may be under
warranty . Mannington has a wear layer that is supposely not to stain
But I am not sure if that pertains to the Aurora Line > I 've been out
of the sales loop for 4 years now .

A trick that I was shown many years ago is to take a clean WHITE cloth (
diaper) and soak it in bleach . Wring out , Place over stain , cover
with plastic , Tape it down , and wait a short time the stain will be
gone ..............But before you do this call Mannington

The colors you mention, blue and pink, DO sound like mold. I have seen
both before. There is no quick fix. It wont just go away I'm afraid. YOu
would need to replace the area. If the lino is less than 3 years old you
need to look into the warranty coverage for that particular product.

I don't know why the matt would have caused this though. Unless it is a
very old lino. New lino has a PVC top layer so moisture is already
traped under it if there is moisture there the mat did not cause it.

Someone mentioned a rubber matt. But that would have turned the lino
Yellow and would be the exact shape of the matt and would not spread.

Hello David M.

Pink ,Blue,Yellow and Black are all signs of mold or mildew in sheet
vinyl . Depending on the vinyl they can show up in either or all these
different colors .

I has this problem before on a project. Armstrong said the discoloration was
from not using the proper glue to install the floor covering. "ie" Armstrong
glue. This showed up on a new floor that had only been down for 3 mo..

Yeah I have seen and heard of this before . I was working in Houston at
the time and the floor was turning yellow all over . Every thing down
is on concete so we thought it was moisture from the slab . After
Mannington paid for the removal they tested the glue , And they found no
tracers of there glue so they made us pay for it . The installer who di
the job used some other adhesive other than the one we supplied for him
.
We ended up splitting the cost with him.

I had a similar problem and found that the plumbers had spilled purple glue
of the slab prior to the floor covering being laid, and itwas leaching
through. As I recall, the plumbing contractor and the flooring contractor
split the cost or replacing the entire floor, after a thorough cleaning!!

Just bought a rental property and the (I believe) fiberglass tub and
surround are horribly stained. I have scrubbed with Fantastic, Scrub
Free and Tilex but cannot get the stains out. The layers of grime are
gone so I know it is basically as clean as I can get it, but it is very
unattractive. Anyone know of something that will get the yellowish
stain out?

Thanks

Try X14. It should work.

I have the same problem and would love to know what to do about it.

Bleach?

Dye probably migrated from the mat to the floor. Bleach might take it
out but otherwise it would probably not wash off. I'd dilute the bleach
and let it puddle up on the stain to give it time to work. Sun might
continue to fade it away. Better wash the mat before putting it down to
get out the excess dye.

I'd guess some kind of plasticizer in the mat material or rubberized
backing is reacting with the flooring.
