"Tom Francois has been a high-end cabinet maker for 38 years. When his
business started to suffer after the recession, he became vocal on Twitter
and Facebook about President Obama's policies... there is nothing close to
resembling a death threat among his many posts. Yet the Secret Service
showed up at Tom's door anyway. After they were done with Tom, they paid a
visit to his daughter, and his ex-wife."

I bet he HOPES the Secret Service is "done with [him]".

Good points. My first reaction was there must be more to this than
the guy just being vocal about the presidents polices. I didn't look
at
any more than that first page of twitter to get an idea of what he's
spewing. Didn't see anything about policy, just vile name calling and
hate. You would hope that a reporter would make some of that evident
in the story.....

But that wouldn't sell any newspapers- The Examiner is a bit like
our Globe, I think. just fewer alien abduction stories.

When you and I agree on someone's 'politics' [or lack of] being nuts--
the men in the white coats can't be far behind.<g>

The shame is- that the guy is likely a good woodworker whose business
went south for any of a million reasons, and as soon as he started
blaming someone else instead of trying to correct the problem he
started alienating customers. . . making his business slide further
and convincing him that it was someone else's fault.. . . and so on-

So why hasn't the Secret Service showed up here:

488 NW 17th Pl
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311

That's the home of Scott Allen Salberg - aka "US Judges are the enemy".

He probably doesn't post to rec.woodworking, but his posts to

I find odd that P.L.L.C.F. wished death and destruction on President
Bush but never made any direct threats so they were never interrogated
by The Secret Service for exercising their right of free speech. Now we
have someone in The White House who has demonstrated his wish to
"change", i.e., destroy our country by making it weaker by turning it
into something like a small European country that isn't feared by any
other country so they can ignore our objections to their actions. So
along comes a citizen who voices his opinion that The Obama
Administration is a group of criminals and should one day face justice.
His exercise of his right to free speech is considered a threat by the
secret police who mean to eliminate dissent among the citizenry. Gee,
we're experiencing "change" in our country but it's the wrong kind. o_O

OK, I give. WTF is a P.L.L.C.F.? Google offers up something about a
metabolism problem and references by some of the same folks using that
abbreviation here. Could it be a right wing reference to some left wing

Must you insult the Globe like that? <g> The Examiner is one of the
shoddiest excuses for an on-line news source I have ever seen. We know
nothing of the SS's side of the story and that's just bad journalism. We
just have Tom's side of the story. Does anyone think if Jared Loughner gave
an interview that he would blame himself for anything?

It's very possible the SS got hold of copies of private email exchanges that
do contain threatening statements. We just don't really know and the
Examiner seems not to care other than to raise same old war cry: "Look what
that bad, bad boy Barack did NOW!!!!!" I doubt Obama even knew of it or any
of the over 400 threats (last time I looked) the Whitehouse receives every
day.

> When you and I agree on someone's 'politics' [or lack of] being nuts--

Yeah. Who kidnapped the real Trader and replaced him with this sensible
person? (-:

My psychologist friend in Oz tells me that hatred of the President (Bush,
Obama, whomever) has a lot to do with people's issues with authority and
their relationship with their father. As people with illnesses like
schizophrenia descend deeper into the disease, they tend to become more and
more resentful of authority figures.

That's why the Pope's got his Pope-mobile. It's not just Presidents, it's
premiers, popes, political leaders and anyone whom a mentally ill person can
fixate on as the cause of their troubles. That often includes groups of
people. In Germany, it was the Jews. In Italy, it's the Roma. In Japan,
it's the Koreans, etc. It America, now, it seems to be Hispanics although
it's been a lot of other groups is the past, from Native American to Italian
to Irish.

So we don't know the mental state of this Tom guy (and maybe the SS *does*
know via PRISM). So no one knows what really triggered the visit from the SS
other than Tom's (likely to be biased) self-reported data about the
incident. It's important to remember in the recent ricin arrests the real
perpetrator went through great lengths to try to make it appear as if
someone else had sent the letters.

That same trend is visible in some posters here who claim they can't thrive
in their businesses because of Obama's policies and yet they spend long
hours here starting thread after thread after thread about OT bullshi+. Any
person whose business is in trouble can't afford the luxury of being a
full-time internet pundit. A prudent person would hike up their pants and
get to work marketing and finding other ways to improve their situation. I
can name at least five here in AHR who I would fire from any subordinate
position I managed just because of their obvious internet addiction and lack
of proper socialization.

That cabinetmaker made his own bed <groan> with his inattention to his core
business, his internet/Twitter addiction and his pretty virulent hate speech
and unusual photoshop work.

With the recent mailing of ricin-laden letters to the Whitehouse from
unhappy internet posters, I'd say excess caution is warranted. Whether they
realize it or not, the last thing right-wingers really want is for someone
to kill Obama and elevate him into a martyr and Biden to President.

As you keenly pointed out, if the SS failed to investigate and something
*did* happen, the Republicans would be holding fault-finding hearing from
now until eternity, trying to pin the blame on their favorite patsies, Eric
Holder and Hillary Clinton.

Parents of special needs children on all sides of the political spectrum
were very bent by her example of Munchausen by proxy actions in claiming to
speak for them and their kids.

As a political tool it's something that has been going on for decades and
the community of parents and families that are hammered by politicians
trying to game favor/benifits from these actions know the drill well.

It did not take Palin & Co. to learn that lesson.

Funny thing. He's got his shorts in a knot over your made-up term,
which really is of no consequence because just the folks here see
it. I wonder how he feels about some of the things libs make up
that get swallowed up by the media and the whole country. A good
example is "jobs saved". AFAIK, that term was never used before
Obama. AFAIK, it's never been tracked, tabulated, never been an
economic statistic at all. And not much thought is required as to
why. It's impossible to measure and can be anything you want it
to be. So, is he at all concerned when the libs say 300,000 jobs
saved?

Oregon is a nice place I suppose but probably gets too cold for me
depending on which part of the state I went to. I live in the Southeast
with our humid subtropical climate here in Alabamastan. The temps have
been 90°F+ with 100% humidity here lately and my joints don't hurt
unless one of our infamous thunderstorms decides to make an appearance.
Hurt is a relative term when it comes to the pain level I live with
since normal doses of pain medications don't work on me and I despise
any kind of drug anyway. When pain meds don't work on me, doctors tend
to think I'm a Martian. I've never taken illegal or recreational drugs
or consumed any alcohol in my life. I'm horribly allergic to the smoke
people inhale from the crap they set on fire because of their addiction
to nicotine or THC. Pain meds and other drugs have never worked on me as
advertized in the doses that work on normal people and it's a real
problem for me. The hospice nurse told me that The FDA is changing its
rules on medications such as Lortab because of the liver damage from
Acetaminophen so they're limiting the doses allowed to patients. I hate
drugs anyway so I live with chronic pain. I haven't strangled anyone yet
so I suppose I'll survive a while longer. ^_^

Yes, Doofus gives that down South perspective on life.

Boobie G tries to make him into a villainous bandit. Of course,
without success IMO.

I do think Doofus is a male lesbian, though.

Well, I'm actually stronger since having my heart zapped back into the
proper rhythm. The cardiologist told me my heart hadn't been beating
correctly for some time. The only problem I'm having is swollen joints
because I can't take any NSAIDS due to the effect on my kidneys and the
damage to them causing a low GFR and high creatine levels in my blood.
I've been going on some service calls with my buds and I can do some
work but I hurt like hell so I'll do the floor crawling tasks instead
of ladder work. We have some computer network and phone system jobs to
do and I stayed home today but had the wireless link gear setup and
tested at the office before the guys took it out to install. I had to
troubleshoot the problems they were having by phone and the guys got the
network up and running then we had a happy customer. I can take stairs
now without running out of breath and it hurts like hell but
every time I climb stairs, I hurt less and get stronger. Thanks for the
kind thoughts. ^_^

I was surrounded by southern Democrats growing up. The good news is
that I got over it and paved my own path and opinions in life. I laugh
when family says, "I thought you were a Democrat!"

I did wonder where you were last month. Glad you made it past your

Thanks, 19 days in a hospital bed with all sorts of tubes stuck in me
was a real bitch and speaking of bitch, Sandy was wandering around the
house looking for me and when I got home she was in my lap doing the
happy wiggle. As far as political party affiliation, Dad was a Southern
Republican and Mom was a New York Democrat. Southern Republicans make
Yankee Republicans resemble weak kneed faggots. I didn't follow any of
my parents advice on which political party I should belong to. I was
attracted to the anarchists but I was young and grew out of it. ^_^

That's encouraging. One friend of mine (he was serving as a full time missionary) tells me they did some kind of experimental laser in his heart. Laser burned a bunch of holes in the muscle wall of his heart, to allow more blood to contact the muscle. He went from barely able to climb stairs, and when I met him, you'd never know there was anything wrong.

Can you get a power scooter chair, outfitted with a tool box, and a trailer full of tools? That would cause some double takes.

I kept up my spirits by flirting with all the cute nurses and med techs
who were torturing me. I got to be pals with the food service folks and
the housekeeping gals. I would tell them that nobody ever thanks them
for what they do but not me, I thanked them for taking care of me. I
told the housekeeping ladies that I thought their job was one of the
most important in the hospital because their work kept down germs that
could make patients sick. I would tease the food service folks and have
fun with them. The funny thing was that I watched more TV than I have in
years because everything I watch is on my computer with a bigger LCD
color screen than any of the console TV's I watched as a kid. ^_^

The anarchist crack was a joke, like most college students at the time,
I leaned toward The Democrat Party because I didn't know any better.
When I got out on my own at a young age and had to support myself, I
quickly learned how full of crap The Democrats were. Believe me, normal
young people grow out of Liberalism when they go out into the work
force. Those who remain Liberals are the weird brain damaged drug and
alcohol addled freaks. ^_^

I just got back from a service call where I changed out a computer in
the manager's office at a clothing store. It failed due to heat because
the office is very hot and the computer is full of dust elephants and
dust whales blocking cooling air. Corporate will not pay for a tech to
come out twice a year to clean the dirt out of the darn things. I was
able to walk across the mall without passing out, turning pale or
running out of breath but every joint in my body hurts. I got home and
my knees started locking up so I had to take my 6:00pm pill load adding
extra pain meds. I am not going to sit on my butt even though I could. O_o

You remind me how nice it is, the 360 or so days of the year when I'm not in pain. I'm sad to hear that life is giving you a rough time. Very often, when I'm in pain, having some thing to do makes the time pass along faster.

I've had a couple calls to oriental restaurants, in the last couple years. I'm learning to avoid them. No room to work, the equipment is coated in hardened grease. No one speaks American but one person, and that person is about 1/3 American speaking and rest is oriental language.

I have a customer who is from Taiwan, and I was doing some work in his
store when I needed to turn off the power to something I was working on.
I asked the fellow where the breakers were and if he knew which one
