Yes, there is a program for that very thing. There is one that comes with
FloorPlanPlus called Garden Designer by IMSI and I believe that it can do most
of what you are asking. I think that there are a few stand alone landscaping
designers that are available. Be advised, this is a very simple program and
won't give you a lot of flexibility, and you can't actually design a deck or a
retaining wall, but you will be able to see what it would look like in your
yard. It does plants too.

You don't say what kind of computer you're using, but I have a 90% shot of
getting it right if I say Windows. Anyway, I've used Books That Work's 3D
Landscape. They also make Visual Home, which I have not used. 3DL is a
pretty good general tool for landscaping; you can add a deck to your house,
select different fence styles, assign seasons and ages to your plantings,
etc., and modify the house enough to make it look somewhat like yours.
IIRC, it does not generate a bill of materials for the house add-ons (maybe
not for the plants, either, but ...). With no experience with similar
packages, I can't say it's the best, but it fills the bill for me.

Thought for today: Did you know that computers run on smoke? You can
tell because if the smoke escapes the computer stops working...

I recently purchased a package by Sierra that seems to work well. I
wanted to design a deck and could only find this package that includes
3D Deck, 3D Landscape, Garden Encyclopedia, and Photo Landdesigner. I
think those are the names. It was $40 with a $20 mail-in rebate.
Nice package - it can't do everything regarding designing a deck, but
it works well. Next I'm going to try to put in our yard and landscape
design to see how that works.
