An Armstrong and Getty podcast had a guy on discussing healthcare issues.
They bill him as Craig the Healthcare Guru. This is what he had to say.
<http://www.benefit-revolution.com>
A couple things got my attention. Taxpayers pay at least 65% of healthcare costs. Craig says debt plus unfunded liability is $465,000/citizen.

It's his own freakin' web site. Anybody can claim anything on a web site.

Medicare: $796 billion in 2019 (61 million people)
Medicaid: $613 billion in 2019 (75 million people)

Damn those old people. Their spending is out of control.

He is a medicine lawyer. The third leg of the stool that makes health
care so expensive.
When you look at the unfunded liability of Medicare/Medicaid his
numbers seem about right.

Bullshit they do and that isn't all US citizens anyway, so the
number is yet again, mindlessly misleading bullshit and lies.

Which "on topic"? On topic as far as home repair or on-topic by staying
on-topic in the typical a.h.r off-topic thread?

The discussions here seem to be a lot like people just sitting around
in a bar or coffee shop. They're just normal conversation. They wander around
when one thought sparks another.
Solutions to problems or inventions happen because of that sometimes.
This group would be almost dead if it wasn't for the OT stuff. I have maybe six or
seven bookmarked. Three of those including this one have posts regularly.
British bikers have one that stays on topic for the most part. They seem to know
each other in the real world.
The man in my mirror is always right about everything. It's nice to hear others'
opinions though.

I disagree. There are plenty of other groups to discuss politics, thoughts and
ideas. This group was set up for it's name; home repair. The charters for this
and similar groups specifically banned politics and spamming. I suggest
us.politics for political discussions. The Brits are the ones that brought
politics into this and made a shambles of this group. Ideas & thoughts on home
repair are encouraged but outside the group charter are not. I have tried to
find the charter but was unsuccessful. No servers have this group for more than
20 years. The charter is the first posting to a group.

That was a different time and Usenet was a different place. There are
still a few clean groups but not many. These still tend to be a group
of less than 50 people and some groups are more like 6 or 7 regulars
with an occasional visitor.
It would be interesting if Golfer Man would expand the "posters" list
to 40 or 50 and see how many actual people post here in a given month,
bearing in mind some have multiple nyms. My bet is you don't get more
than 40 before you are in single digits if you get that far.

And most of the groups have just completely died. People have moved on
to other forums, eg social media.

Sounds about right. What would be helpful would be if people stopped
creating so many off topic new threads. I create one here occasionally,
but there are a few posters creating most of those new threads and they do
one or more a day. With less OT threads, if someone stumbled in here for AHR
and looked at the topics, it would at least look more like an AHR forum.

There are still a number of UBB type forums out there that are not
carried by the clickbait companies. They run clean because they have
real moderators.

Without OT, there would be about 3 posts a month here that don't come
from 10 year old threads on Homeowner Hub.

I agree with your point. Once you look past about the first 20 or 30
entries, it starts to look pretty weak. I pulled that list from September
so that I could get a full month, but it looks pretty typical.

I also can't help pointing out that the #1 poster seems to have a lot of
time on his hands, but I suppose that's mostly harmless.
