I saw this device recently at an ACR hardware systems which shows
temperature and % relative humidity . How accurate (+- how many %) is
this device in measuring relative humidity ( RH ) ?

oops - spelled Bionaire

I'd see if I could find their website if they have one. Then I'd look there
to get the specifications on that thermometer/hygrometer.

I have one of those and it seems to differ about 5 % from my dehumidifier,
not sure which one is accurate. I am wondering if there might be a way of
testing one, by placing the unit in a steam filled shower, what should the
humidity register.

I looked around the web and found a reference to a " salt test " .
You place a small amount (1/2 teaspoon) of table salt in a small
container (like a bottle cap ) and put a few drops of water on it (not
too much just a slight paste ) . Place the bottle cap with the wet
salt and the hygrometer unit in a sealed ziplock bag for a few hours
. The relative humidity reading ( RH %) should be 75 % . Mine read
74% so I guess it is not that far off at least in that range. Just
out of interest I found a couple of small silica gel bags which came
in camera box which I had saved for storing . I heated them in foil
over a light buld for a few hours to drive out the absort moisure
then put them in ziplock bag with the Bionaire RH-400 meter . The RH
drops from 72% ambient (I live in Atlanta ) to 32% in the bag . I am
not sure what the silca gel experiment tells me ( about accuracy ? )
other than the device works
