Heavy-duty metal shelving ~48 x ~80 x 24: costco vs home depot?

Costco has what looks to be pretty substantial stuff -- 48 wide left-right,
2'deep shelves, whole thing maybe 75 or 80 inches high.
Presumably Home Depot (next door, basically, to Costco) has similar.
I'm going over there now to check them out, then plan to buy two of
them tomorrow, when my step-son will driving right by the place with
a moving truck (US 95 at route 1, which is where the two stores are)
on the way to my house to pick up more stuff for moving to his new
house.
Perfect if his wife will let him do it.
No way the shelves-box will fit in our ford focus (small station
wagon).
Anyway, what do you suggest, home depot's or costco's?

Just for giggles, look online for local commercial warehouse/retail back
room supply store. A town of any size usually has more than one store
that recently went belly up, and their back-room racks are floating
around on the used market. They even show up on CraigsList, around here.
Of course, if SWMBO wants 'pretty', you are probably stuck paying for new.
No way to say which is best without seeing it. Hopefully, they have an
assembled demo unit, that isn't also bolted and wired 'for your safety'
like the local Menards does. Grab a loose rail or vertical out of the
bin and try to flex it- if you can, move on to the next choice. The ones
with the welded 'H' end pieces are usually the stoutest, almost like
commercial pallet racks. Really reap on the demo unit- if you can flex
it or get it out of square, it is probably junk. Pretty much like
shopping for a bookcase.
I wish I had space around here with an outside door to set up some of
those. Only space I have is trapped down a narrow basement staircase.
I'll probably have to go with stick-built wood shelves down there, if I
ever get around to it, cutting the wood in the garage, and carrying it
down a stick at a time. My idiot Previous Owner made the garage too
small when he did the addition- the cars barely fit, much less a storage
wall.

The heavy adjustable shelving I bought (2x4x6) is split in the middle, so
the box is only 2x4x3. This means that the middle shelf is fixed, as it
forms the connecting structure for the lower and upper posts.

Go look at each one and inspect them for metal thickness and quality of
workmanship. Buy whichever one you like the best.

Those are nice for lighter stuff- not so good for storing engine parts.
The chrome on a lot of them is real cheesy, and will rust quickly in a
damp environment. Commonly called baker's shelves.

try looking on craigslist for warehouses/companies going out of business
or looking to get rid of commercial shelving. i scored 10 shelving units
out of one such company. 2'x4'x10' 6 shelf very heavy painted steel
units at $25/each. the only drawback was i had to disassemble in place
before taking them, but a power drill with a socket bit took care of
that pretty quickly.

I love those things, but they're now up to $115 and the wheels are not
heavy duty. You'll bend them up and start losing ball bearings if you
move them around a lot and they're heavily loaded. No need to ask me
how I know this.
