How to Get Rid of Bees?

We have a bee hive or nest at ground level right under the outside faucet in
our front yard. Is there a safe way for us to get rid of the bees, or is it
a job best done by a comercial pest control company?

We have seen bee traps for sale at the local hardware store. Can they be
used for this purpose? We have nothing against the bees; but its becoming
increasingly more hazardous for us to use the faucet in the front yard. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First, make sure you have bees and not yellow-jackets. If you have
yellow-jackets, get an exterminator. If you truly have bees (honey bees I'm
assuming), then you couldn't have them in a better location! A professional
exterminator in my area told my Dad and I how to do it and it worked! No stings,
no fly-aways, got-em all, and some honey to boot! In daylight, clear the area
and loosen any boards or anything obscuring the hive (but don't remove said
boards/etc! This is just to make life easier after dark). Then after dark,
remove obstructions and with an ordinary garden hose gently hose down the hive,
soaking the bees in the process. DO NOT SPRAY OR SOME BEES WILL BE KNOCKED AWAY
AND WILL ESCAPE! ESPECIALLY TRY TO LOCATE THE QUEEN IF YOU CAN (they are not
always easy to spot).
The bees will fall to the ground and drown within minutes. By morning you will
have a large pile of bees on the ground.

If they are honey bees, I would get a professional to take the hive.
Honey bees are valuable and you could probably get someone to come get
the queen at no cost to you (and be doing a good deed).

If, however, they are yellow jackets (pests) or something else, I
would use a spray of Raid (r) Wasp and Hornet Killer.

Especially these days!! Honey bee populations have been hurt severely by a couple of
viruses which are making their rounds.

If they are honey bees you can call any bee keeper and they will come
and get them for free. If they are anything else you will have to pay
a pest control company.
