Costco Salmon Risotto has a metal band around the top of each cup.

Wifey asks if it can go in the microwave and I say no, after testing it
with a knife (it's not magnetic though so maybe it's aluminum).
But the box says do it (without any mention of arcing to the sides).
What gives?

Some metal can go in OK. Don't have a spoon sticking out of a cup as it
will arc. The circular band or a flat piece can be used if done right.
For more details. as Mr. Tesla.

There's regular metal and there's magic metal. Magic metal was
discovered only 8 years ago, at the Magic Mine in Wyoming (currently
flooded).
