I want to have replacement windows installed. I have single glazed
double hungs windows with wooden storms. Want to replace with
high E double glazed double hungs and eliminate the storms.

I like the Pella replacement window system but hate the snap-in
grills which are only on the interior. Marvin offers a grill applied
to both interior and exterior pane with adhesive which looks more
realistic. I like it but the cost scares me.

Anyone had experience with either window or compared costs for
professionally installed replacement windows?

Both Marvin and Pella offer good replacement windows. the Pella will install
quicker because it is a once piece unit, whereas the Marvin requires that the
tracks be installed first, then the sash. Make sure your comparing apples to
apples when it comes to exterior finishes, screens, etc. Delivery can be a
touchy subject with Marvin. 2 weeks can turn into 4-6 weeks.

If you like the Marvin because of the grilles, go for it.

This statement only refers to comparing a Pella window to a Marvin Tilt-Pak
kit. If you compare a Marvin window to a Pella, I can't think of why
installation of the same size window would vary by brand.

The Marvin Tilt-Pak is a great alternative to a complete window replacement in
many situations, but it is not the only option from Marvin.

As far as price, when I compared custom sizes of Marvin to Pella, Marvin was
much cheaper. In an old house, the Marvins seemed to match better too. I did
my house with Marvin 10 years ago and have been very happy with them.

pella replacement windows come shipped from the factory as a single unit. i
was not refering to a pella pro-line or designer series. i was refering to a
pella REPLACEMENT WINDOW.

there is an extra 2 steps when you install a marin window....come to think of
it , there is an extra 4 steps because you have to load the windows into the
track on a marvin tilt pack. as i said before the pella comes shipped as a
single unit..tracks and sash are all connected.

I will state again. Marvin Tilt Pacs come in pieces to convert an old double
hung window to a new insulated tilting double hung window.

Marvin windows (not Tilt Pacs) come shipped as any other window is shipped, as
a single unit. The only difference is the larger number of choices that Marvin
gives the consumer.

There is no difference installing different brands. The original poster I
believe was talking about complete window replacements. Not Tilt Pac
conversions. If Tilt Pacs can be used, the amount of labor increases but the
cost of the windows drop.
