Personally I think cult member fits best. Trump is out there right now holding
his death rallies and people keep coming. They actually believe him, that Covid
is disappearing, that it's no big deal, that they don't need to wear masks,
don't need to social distance. That's one step away from Jim Jones cult crazy.

Interesting that the phrase doesn't mean what it originally referred to.
That was suicide, or maybe murder, well after one has become a devoted
folower, but now it means the act of becoming a devoted follower.
