Other than the lowest priced models, newer Kenmore (i.e., the ones on sale
every other day for under $100) have 4 or 5 year replacement warranties.
As I understand it from someone who had a failure, you take in the old piece
of junk and they hand you a new piece of junk. But, at least it is free!

Consumer alert - Kenmore Garbage disposal (Sears #60514).

I purchased this unit 2 years ago. The last 6 months it had started to
jam, requiring the tried and true method of using a broom stick to rotate it
back into operation.

It finally Froze, requiring me to dismantle it.

The rubber o-rings had disintegrated, while the unit showed signs of bad
assembly,(bent, and distorted plastic parts).

The disposal does it's job with a rotating plate: two arms forcing
material thru a sieve. With time the O-rings lost their resilience allowing the
sieve to drop down, sitting against the rotating plate, preventing it from
moving.

I highly suggest purchasing a different brand if your in the market,
and if you have one that quit, not having to pay for it's repair. It's just a
bad design.

I just bought a 60514 this weekend. I don't know if it is the same unit
as two years ago, but my 60514 is obviously made by Insinkerator. It
has a stainless steel grinding parts and seems to be pretty well made.
It came with a special allen wrench that you insert in the shaft on the
bottom of the unit, much better than using a broom stick on the grinding
parts. The unit also has a five year warranty. My parents insinkerator
is going strong after 20 years so I am hoping for similar service.

In another 20, Kenmore will be worth something on Ebay, maybe.
