I'm not sure if I should worry about it right now or let it wait until spring
but I've noticed about twenty feet of the concrete floor in the basement
running along the front wall of the house sounds hollow when tapping it with a
hammer.
I've gone all the way around the basement outer walls tapping the floor but
it's only in that one area. It also looks like there's a crack forming along
that same stretch.

Now a little about the location and landscaping of the area around the front of
the house:
I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and even though it hasn't snowed here as of
yet, and it's not below zero, yet, it most surely will be soon.
I'm pretty sure it's mostly sand around my house.
The lot slopes down toward the front and to the right.
The pretty sure the sewer runs under the same area, although I haven't noticed
any smell coming from the area or troubles with the plumbing.

Anyone had similar problems and solutions?

I had a house built in 1971, it is located in south louisiana, so there
is no basement. it is a brick house on a concrete slab foundation...
i saw them pour the concrete so it know they did it and filled it up OK.
what they probably did to mine later and also yours is take some other
concrete mix and put it over the origianl concrete(in my case the front
porch, its smooth and not like the original stuff they poured when
putting the slab down.. i can hit certain area of the porch area and
some area of my garage(part of th original pour with a smooth surface
put on it) i had hear what sounds like a hollow sound... i would not
worry about it, it is probably the finishing concrete that they used on
the concrete to dress it up..... mine been like this for 30 years and
did not go any place.. and about hair line cracks, well i have them and
i think most of my neighbors do also, and you and your neighbors
probably have them also.
