Could this explain why only one American manufacture (Amana) makes a top
loader that has a stainless steel tub, all the rest are either plastic or
porcelain. Could the heavy use of chlorine bleach in American laundries
resulted in manufacturers staying away from metal tubs?
Can anyone tell me if chlorine bleach is safe to use in front loaders?
Thanks

Use lots of chlorine in my Kenmore, enameled basket, no rust in 5 years....
Chlorine is highly reactive, that is why it works, but it shouldn't rust
stainless steel.

The purpose of the tub is to extend the life of your clothing. It does
this because it is extremely smooth and is less abrasive than glass.
Bleach won't hurt it.
I have the Bosch washer/dryer units. They recommend not using bleach (they
do not provide a place to put bleach in), but I think it's because you don't
have to use it. The washer heats the water to 160 degrees F, which is hot
enough to get most stains out. It also has "power wash", which heats the
water slowly from cold to 160 (this supposedly allows different stains to
come out at different temperatures). The clothes come out so clean, I
cannot see why one would ever want to use bleach.

It's quite safe to use, you just don't have to use as much or use it as
often because of the way the front-loader cleans. My Gibson manual
specified that it's fine to use it, just not as much. It has a dispenser
that I put the bleach, detergent, and fabric softener in and it dispenses
them as needed. It's been quite nice for over a year now, no problems.

The Bosch model I just got has five temperatures, basically
cold (65F), warm (90F), hot (120F) hotter (140F) and even
hotter (165F). The last three are achieved primarily by the
washer's own heater. So you just get more choices.

As hot as the clothes can take. Boil 'em and they get really
clean.

Before you buy.
If you are using a top loader and plan to use very hot water ( or a front
loader that does not have a internal water heater) you should do a pre-wash
first using cool water if the garments being washed are stained. Lastly if
the detergent you are using contains enzymes they will be deactivated by
really hot water.
