Greetings,
Can anyone recommend an adhesive or some way to attach 3/4" oak 1/4 round
molding to brick? We've got to add a small piece near a the far edge of a
fireplace mantle. Would normal construction adhesive work? Any ideas or
pointers to resources are appreciated.
thanks,
-Susan

I would definitely use hot glue. It has a thick consistency which you need
for brick, it dries very quickly so you don't have to worry about holding
the trim in place with tape or anything, It holds remarkably well yet it is
very forgiving and comes of easily should you need to remove it. Make sure
to use the heavier duty variety, though.

Construction adhesive is good. If you need to nail, either to force
the trim into the proper position or to hold the trim until the
adhesive sets, you can do so by drilling a 1/4" hole with a masonry
bit and driving a dowel or scrap of wood into the hole. This will give
you as many nailing spots as you need.

I used a "Liquid Nails" cartridge in my caulk gun. There's several
types of Liquid Nails, so read the label before you purchase. Another
problem with this was bracing the wood against the concrete until the
adhesive sets. I used 2x4's and concrete blocks angled against the
wood. It's a good idea to think all of this out and prepare the set
up well before applying the adhesive. Hot glue may or may not work,
depending on how warm/hot this area becomes.

A suggestion I saw a while back seems appropriate here. If you
use a construction adhesive and hot glue in parallel strips, the
hot glue sets up fast and holds the assembly together while the
construction adhesive sets up. YMMV

Likely one of the products like "Liquid Nails" would do fine for you.
