I've been to the courses put on by the governing
bodies of honest and ethical carpet cleaners in
the U.S. At these courses the subject of
scotchguard comes up often. From what I have
been told and through all of the reading and
studying I have done, I have come to this
conclusion. Carpet manufacturers recommend that
you reapply the protection after cleaning. More
importantly, the cleaner should know how old your
carpet is and whether or not it has a stain
protection applied to it from the manufacturer.
This tells the cleaner what type of pre-
conditioning agent he should use. If he dosn't
ask you these important questions it is entirely
possible that by using the wrong conditioner that
he has wiped out the protection all together. To
make a long story, or explanation, short common
sense would tell me that if I still had an active
warranty on the stain treatment. I don't think I
would worry too much about the added protection.
Call the customer service department of the
manufacturer of the stain treatment and get their
opinion. As long as the scotchguard is applied
correctly, you have made a godd and wise
investment for your money. Keep your carpets
cleaned every 6-12 months. Asking for a
maintenance agreement would bring the cost down
somewhat. I hope I haven't given you too much to
chew on. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any
other questions on carpet cleaning, or installing
and choosing the right contractor for the job.> >
