Like all Toshiba HDTV-ready TVs, the CN36X81 features two sets of
ColorStream HD high-resolution component video inputs for the best picture
quality from a choice of digital display devices. The use of dual
ColorStream HD inputs allows users to connect two digital sources such as
Toshiba's HDTV set-top converter box and a DVD-Video player with progressive
scan output and easily switch between them. For optimum HDTV performance,
advanced IDSC (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology automatically
converts 480i images to 480p, and automatically passes through 480p and
1080i images. The system utilizes both line doubling and frame doubling
technologies to achieve optimum picture quality with an absence of
image-degrading motion artifacts.
Further improving image quality, the CN36X81 features Toshiba's exclusive
FST Perfect picture tube, also included in the new 36-inch analog Cinema
Series Model CN36Z71. The virtually flat FST Perfect tube yields a
consistently bright and vivid picture across the entire screen.
Like all Cinema Series HDTV-ready and analog models, the CN36X81's
performance is further enhanced by a full range of image-enhancing
technologies including Picture Preference and Color Temperature Control,
which let viewers custom tailor their viewing to obtain the ideal picture in
a wide variety of room lighting situations.
In addition to the new HDTV-ready CN36X81, Toshiba's Cinema Series HD line
includes three new HDTV-ready 4:3 projection sets (the 61-inch TN61X81,
55-inch TN55X81 and 50-inch TN50X81). Each of these sets offers the ultimate
in analog TV performance plus the assurance of total compatibility with
future HDTV broadcasts (using a compatible digital set-top receiver). The
new Cinema Series HD models feature the company's exclusive PowerFocus Plus
five-element lens system, which increases the horizontal resolution on 4:3
HDTV-ready TVs to 1,200 lines. This newly designed lens system is used in
conjunction with Toshiba's new PowerFocus HD Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) for an
additional 10 percent increase in brightness and a 25 percent increase in
sharpness over conventional tubes.
Toshiba's new TheaterBright projection screens are also included in all
Cinema Series HD HDTV-ready projection TV models. The screens feature a
Surface Level Diffuser that enhances brightness and contrast, and provides
viewers with an exceptionally wide 160-degree viewing angle. A new Corner
Diffuser Enhancer in the TheaterBright screens increases corner brightness,
resulting in more uniform brightness across the screen. Toshiba's new Cinema
Series HD projection sets also feature built-in TheaterShield Plus
protection screens, which include a new unique anti-reflective layer for
increased contrast and reduced glare, without a reduction in brightness.
Toshiba includes its image-improving First-Surface mirror technology in all
Cinema Series HD and Cinema Series projection TVs. Unlike conventional
mirrors which have their reflective surface on the back side of the glass,
the reflective material is placed on the outer layer of the glass,
eliminating any image distortion or ghosting that can occur from unwanted
refraction.
Ultra-Slim, High-Performance 43-Inch Projection TV
In addition to Toshiba's new HDTV-ready Cinema Series HD projection TVs, the
line includes a wide variety of the industry's most advanced analog
projection sets. The company's new
tabletop 43-inch TN43V71, for example, is perfectly sized for smaller living
spaces (with a cabinet that's less than 18 inches deep!) and offers the
impact of large-screen projection TV with the crispness and clarity of a
direct-view SuperTUBE.
To ensure that all Cinema Series sets provide easy connection to all future
audio or video components, all new sets feature Toshiba's most extensive,
future-ready Super Jack Pack, which includes ColorStream component video
inputs.
For the ultimate in viewing enjoyment and convenience, virtually all Cinema
Series sets are equipped with MultiWindow dual-tuner PIP, which allows
viewers to watch two programs simultaneously. In MultiWindow Preview,
viewers can scan available channels in six windows underneath the main
picture; in MultiWindow Favorite Channel, nine separate windows display the
favorite channels that viewers pre-select, allowing them to directly tune to
a desired channel simply with an on-screen cursor; and in MultiWindow
Strobe, nine windows are used to show a time-lapse display of a broadcast
signal or other video source.
All Toshiba Cinema Series TVs feature the company's new Learning Remote
Control, which allows users to easily control a wide variety of additional
home theater components.
