Steve,

What a coincidence....

I have relatives in Wholesale and Retail that sell Panasonic/Technics
and Nuance Speakers... what would you like to know?

Interestingly enough, being from Telus, and I from Bell do you have
Lotus Notes access?? this could be a whole lot faster there instead....

Steven,

Nuance is a Canadian company based out of Markham (right next door and
soon to be in the Greater Mega-city Toronto).

The only anoying thing I have with the Nuance company is that they WILL
NOT publish any figures concerning their products. Although it seems
suspicious, they feel that if you like the sound of the speaker and can
compare them to others based on the sound, then you should buy them.

However, I have heard rumors that they have at least as good quality as
some top end Bose speaker systems.

As far as I and the inlaw's know to date, Nuance makes 4 catagories of
speaker sets.

They have the Magic, Star, Spatial, and Grand Series.

as well, ther is the cen 1 and cen 2 (center speakers) sat 1 and sat 2
(satellites) and sub 1 and sub 2 (subwoofers)

the 1's and 2's I believe they make reference to something they call the
"Sonic Signature" (I suspect the frequency response plot...) and to the
model/size of the speaker.

I have also heard that for '98 they are comming out with a "super grand"
speaker that will have a 7 1/2 ' height, 200W powered sub, 4 x 10",
1x8", and 2x2" tweets athat will weight close to 250lbs.....Jesus!!!

but,

my inlaws stock the following, and beside the different catagories I've
included some SUGGESTED RETAIL pricing Cdn):

magic 1
star 2 (woof,tweet,port) $600(incl stands)(2' speakers on a 2'
stand)
spatial 3 (woof, mid,tweet) $1000 (incl stands)(4' speakers on a 3"
stand)
studio grands (??)

cen 1 ($150)
cen 2 ($200)

sat 1 ($200) (little speaks 6"^3)
sat 2 ($400) (6"x5"x10" with wall mounts) (I LOVE these)

sub 1 (50W)
sub 2 ($400) (100W)

I personally have a set of Star 2's, cen 2, sat 2's on the wall and I am
asking for a sub 2 for Christmas...I have a technics 690 Home theatre
unit pushing them all in a 1350sq' condo and they make me think twice
about condo=neibours=complaints)

I have the Nuance phone number at home (if you like I will send) and you
can call them directly....

As well, i could inquire for a local dealer in your area if you like...

You really need to hear them.... for the typical audio phile with a
moderately limited budget they are great ( personally I think they're
better than my friends sony/bose setup...but of course thats all
subjective...;-)

Let me know....

Have they dropped the Sub 3 Shane? That's the one I bought about a year
ago.

Actually,

it seemed that I was not asking the proper question to the factory...

Officially, no they will not sell a sub 1, sub 2, or sub 3 as we know
it, but, still manufacture them on a special demand basis.

They now carry sub's that marry with the model line now and have the :

Magic, Star, Spatial, Grand, Ultimate Grand, and Universe Grand series.

so a sub 1 could equate to a magic, sub 2 to a star, etc.... so your sub
3 could equate to the Spatial series sub.

However, I suspect your's is 'bout 1 or 2 years old, so they say that
there has been some new advances on the subs, and in fact, the sub 2 is
actually larger physically than the now star sub. (circuitry, and
drivers..)

Has anyone seen the universe grand series?? I've seen the ultimate
grand...but man I'm scared to see the next version up...;-)

I'd be a tad leery of a company (Nuance) that won't provide their
products for testing to magazines. In fact, they threatened Andrew
Marshall (AUDIO IDEAS GUIDE) with a lawsuit, should he choose to buy
and test their speakers! Wouldn't even allow him into their exhibit at
a show.

That said, I'd pick AIG's integrity over not only Nuance, but any
other audio/video manufacturer out there. A small, but mighty fine
(and might I proudly add, Canadian) magazine.

There's a plethora of superb speaker manufacturers right in your own
backyard - Paradigm, Mirage, Energy, PSB, to name a few. Why not
check them out?

Wow man,

That move sure doesn't help PR now does it....

I have seen the others (or more like heard) and I think they'll fine
products as well, however, for myself, with the family involved it make
it a little more tricky to buy 'out of brand' stuff.... besides, you
can't beat paying wholesale....

For those that are DIE-HARD audio folks, sure go where your ear lends,
however, don't just wave off the nuance product without giving a listen,
you may never know, besides, I have not heard of any warrantee / after
sales complaints... anyone??

I have a friend who is a die-hard tube fan (15~20 yrs now) coming over
during Christmas to hook up his tube stuff to compare the speakers to
the ones that he's heard in the past, ....I let you know how he thinks
of them...
