*****CUT from 'It's About Tyme'*****
Zadie Layne-Malaar retreated into the quietest place in her mind, reaching
out across the psychic distance to her last remaining friend in all the
Universe, the powerful seer who she yet feared would falter against the
might of the terrible, horrible creatures. . . .
She invoked the name Horizon.
She called her friend's name.
*Cassie . . . "

Cassandra Burke (three years old and as she constantly reminded everyone who
asked 'almost four') was walking with her parents, Captain James Burke and
Lt Kathryn Burke, through the public shopping mall when she felt the whisper
of the call.

The sudden intrusion of the call almost caused Cassie to leap from her
chair. The professor lecturing to the class noticed her stiffening of
posture and glanced at her briefly before continuing his lecture on warp
field theory.
She tried to relax as she listened to the whisper across Time.

*this date has been perfect* Cassie thought to herself as she walked
hand-in-hand with the young man. Soon enough, to soon for her, they were at
the front door of her home.
"I had a great time," he said.
Cassie stepped a bit closer. "So did I."
The young man made several attempts before he next spoke. "I . . . I'm glad
you did. Could . . . we do this again sometime?"
Cassie smiled. "Definitely. Yes!"
Her arms encircled his neck. He pulled her closer and lowered his lips to
hers.
*Cassie . . . *
Cassie's body stiffened. "Zadie!?"
"Huh? Who's Zadie?" the young man said.

*****CUT*****
*You are the Mystic of the Horizon.*
Nova'Song's presence was warming, healing.
*Yes, and you are the Zadie from my Omariaa vision.*
*You see the future...*
*I see many things, much of which does not come to pass... my touch is
limited to thought, time and place/space, I am the Mystic, not the
Oracle.... Cassandra Burke is here, but you must NEVER call her by that
name. I will call her, while we wait, tell me what has happened.*
"Commander Nova'Song to Lt. Sandra Tyme, please report to Sickbay."
*I know their attack is coming, and my vision unclear. Please tell me how to
save the Horizon.*
*****PASTE*****
Lt Sandra Tyme turned the Bridge over to another officer and was quickly in
the turbolift.
Until a few moments ago she had been unaware that Nova'Song knew her real
identity. Mentally reviewing the lines of Time available to her confirmed
that this revelation had not been previously present. Nova'Song was not to
have discovered that she was actually Cassandra Burke, daughter of former
HORIZON CO Cpt James Burke, and now an operative of Federation Temporal
Operations, for several months yet. Zadie's appearance was likewise several
months early.
Cassandra's physical presence aboard the HORIZON in this Time and Place was
only her second assignment from Temporal Operations.
*and I thought my life would be soooo predictable* Cassie/Sandra thought to
herself. Now she could feel Time swirling around her, re-aligning into
possible and probable realities.
As she walked down the corridor to Sickbay, she presented her usual calm,
focused face to those she passed. Occasionally she would brush a strand of
her red hair back into place. Inside, however, her mind and emotions
scrambled to find a starting place.
Until today, she could predict what would happen in her life and in the
lives of those she touched. Nothing had varied. Each event happened as
predicted. Long ago she gave up voicing her predictions. Facing the
ridicule, pity, laughter, and humiliation of doing so had caused her to
retreat inward. Keeping silent had become the preferred course of action.
Even that caused her pain, but the pain was less.
As she walked into Sickbay, the memory of saying 'good-bye' to Nova'Song
when she was two-years-old came to mind. Her childish touching of the
crystal embedded in Nova'Song's forehead made her smile.
"They're in there," one of the medics said, pointing to a treatment room.
Cassie/Sandra nodded. A touch on the annunciator strip opened the treatment
room door. She stepped through.
"Commander," Sandra said. She felt herself settle down, the mental and
emotional turmoil calmed. She turned her gaze to the young woman on the bed.
Walking to the bed, she laid her hand against the woman's cheek. 'Zadie.
It's
good to finally see you. In the flesh, so to speak. You're early. I'm not
sure whether that's a good thing or not."
