Hi there,

I've just read somewhere that Scalextric will not be making the Pacer for
their Sport track http://www.sportcraftcars.com/sport.track.scalex.htm .
Can anyone tell me if the Pacer System C8003 will work with the Sport track
system if you get a classic/sport track adapter? Will the Sport power and
hand throttles work?

Thanks,

Kent

Hi Kent,
Yes your are right they will not be making the pacer unit in Sport
format. The good news is the Classic Pacer unit does work with Sport
track if you buy a pair of converter straights. There are however a
couple of important points to note. It will only work up to a maximum
lap time of 10 seconds so check your chosen car can lap in under 10
seconds. More importantly you will need older hand controllers to work
with it, these are the ones with a 'mono' 3.5mm jack plug on the end,
the part numbers are C8022, C8023, C180 and C183. (The newer
controllers have dynamic braking which use a stereo jack plug.) Also
it only accepts single power supply input, so you can't run dual
supplies to eliminate power surges when one car crashes, the only
other thing I can think of is that it is limited to automatically
controlling one track, i.e. track 2.

Hope that helps,
Miles

Thanks Miles. Greatly appreciate the info.

The odd thing about the Pacer unit is that I still see Sport Pacer unit on
the Scalextric web site.

Cheers,

Kent

My local store (North of Scotland) received a new batch of pacer units from
scalextric late last year. Guess what, all sport track connections! I had
to search various dealers until I found a Classic version. Sport pacer
definitely exists.

if that is so, could you please send me some details of the store so
that I can order one.

Are you sure it is a Sport Pacer or a classic pacer that just happens to
have been fitted (incorrectly?) to Sport track? The key thing is whether
it supports braking.

Don't know about braking, but it was a pacer with sport track connections in
a sport box. Will investigate further next time in town.

Kent,

Just bought the classic pacer for my sport track. You have to have a
pair of converter tracks, remove the sport power unit(s) and use 'old'
hand throttles. As a result you have no brakes but I have'nt found this
to be a problem. It's great!

Laurence,

Sounds interesting. It's getting harder and harder to find the classic
Pacer unit here. Two question though, with the slightly less deep slots of
the classic sets, are you noticing any problems running Ninco or other cars
that have a deeper guide than Scalextric cars? And, can the classic Pacer
unit take two power adapters for independant lane power?

Cheers,

Kent

You can run the other lane from a separate power supply and even on Classic
this is the preferred way for the Enthusiast.
You an even build the Pacer on to a piece of Sport track thus avoiding the
shallow slot issue.
If you run a separate power supply for the second unpaced lane make sure to
disconnect power leads from the pacer to that lane this prevents the
possibility of a short due to reverse polarity issues.
You can then race against the Pacer car with or without brakes.

Hope this helps.

Kent,

You can only use one power adapter. Yes, the Ninco guides 'ground out' as they go over the pacer track section, but other than the associated noise it's not yet been a problem (i.e., none have left the groove!). Fly cars appear unaffected. My local hobby store (A.B. Charles, Pittsburgh) still has a few left and if you want their 'phone number I can pass it on.

Hi Laurence,

Sure...that would be great.  Do you know off hand if they would ship to Canada?  Just out of curiousity how much is it?

Cheers,

Just picked up the Pacer unit and a couple of adapter tracks along with a Parma 45ohm controller.  Managed to find one at RaceWorld in Toronto.  The store you mentioned in Pittsburgh ran out the day I called them.  This is an amazing piece of hardware and ups my enjoyment of the track.  By dailing up the current a little I really get a run for my money.  You're right about Ninco cars but it doesn't affect the performance.  Fly, SCX and Monogram run normally.  Haven't tried Carrera yet but I don't think they would experience any issues.

Curious if this would work for separate power to each lane with a minimal of
fuss.

The Sport Power can handle two power sources. What if I set the Sport Power
to 2 power sources but only plug in one power adapter to the first socket
which is for Lane 1. Then I disconnect the power to lane one on the Pacer
unit only. Do you think this would give me independant power? It would
mean that the Pacer unit is only supplying power to Lane 2 while the Sport
Power is only supplying power to Lane 1. I would only therefore have to
play around with the Pacer unit's wiring. Just an idea, what do you think?
Think it would work?
