Brian,
I've never heard that you couldn't sell your honey if extracted with a
galvanized extractor, I don't believe that. You shouldn't leave honey lay
for any length of time in any galvanized container because honey is acitic.
Stainless steel IS the best for food handling.
You can oftain a "plastic" coating, it's actually "epoxy". One quart
should take care of your extractor. It's available from Walter T. Kelley Co.
@ $9.00 per qt. You can reach the Kelley Co. @ 1-800-233-2899 their website

Honey is acidic and dissolves some of the zinc. All equipment must be
stainless steel or food grade plastic.

Illegal in the UK. We have stricter food regulations than the US.

Depends if you can find a suitable drum.

I think that I would look for a second-hand machine, or join an association
that has one for the use of its members.

I am no longer in the bee business, but I still have some of my old
equipment. I have a Maxant stainless steel 3 frame tangential extractor
in like new condition. I also have a friend who wants to buy it and to
establish a price I would like to know what such an extractor would be
worth new. ( In US or CAN $)

Why doesn't somebody just buy my 1935 eight frame Superior Lifetime
(also galvanized with food grade coating). that way you could own both
a good working tangential extractor excellent for thick honey, and a
working antique !

Thanks a lot for your answer. That is about what I thought would be a
reasonable price selling it to my friend. He will have it for the
Canadian equivalent =150 CAN$. No S&H since he lives next door (5 km
down the road <g>)
