I wrote last fall about a swarm of bees who seemed to need help ('Odd
bee situation' and Further follow up - happy bees! last October). I was
so worried when I didn't see them all spring and then summer, but
suddenly yesterday they reappeared at my hummingbird feeders. I quickly
refilled their favorite feeder with the special blend (I was given the
recipe by a local master bee-keeper) and they drained the quart in a
single day!

They had some help from bumbles, yellow jackets, wasps and a couple
puzzled, then jazzed hummers - they practically did back-flips after
sipping this stuff ;-)

Of course I cannot swear it is the same swarm, but they certainly homed
in on that feeder, so I can hope it is the same bunch, and that means
they survived the winter, and are building up their new hive. Now I just
have to carefully, in increments, move 'their' feeder to a location just
a little farther from the door where my guests have to come and go - I
don't want any conflicts! ;-)

Also have to make more home-brew! These guys eat more than the hummers -
good thing I buy sugar in 50 pound sacks at Sam's ;-)

Toleration is not the opposite of intolerance but the counterfeit of it.
Both are despotisms: the one assumes to itself the right of withholding
liberty of conscience, the other of granting it.
