I was watching Garfield and Friends the other day. For anyone familiar with
the cartoon show, there is a section in the middle with the 'friends' There
is a character called Wade Duck who is a real scaredy duck :) He was
claiming he was responsible for all sorts of disasters. One thing was
mentioned along the lines of, "and wade you were not responsible for the
sinking of the Titanic'
I laughed at the time. It was such an unexpected line to pop up in the
midst of it all.

I saw a bad one recently on UK Gold in the comedy "It ain't Half Hot
Mum".
I've forgotten why it came up, but Captain Ashworth said "Yes, and
that's what Charles Smith said." The Colonel asked "Who's Charles
Smith?" Reply - "He was the Captain of the Titanic"

There's an episode of "Frasier" in which Frasier has to give a speech at an
banquet at which the guest of honor is a prominent bishop. Someone suggests
that Frasier start off his speech with a joke to lighten things up.
The night of the speech, Frasier is so nervous that just before he's
scheduled to go up, he has to run to the bathroom to throw up. While he's
out of the room, the MC informs the audience that the bishop, who was out
fishing, had the boat capsize on him and the bishop is still missing.
Frasier returns from the bathroom and begins his speech, unaware of what the
audience has just been told. He begins his speech with a joke about a
bishop and a rabbi on the Titanic (the punchline was something like
"Iceberg? I thought you said Weissberg!"). Needless to say the speech is
not a roaring success.

I'm guessing they knew that, but you have to know the character of Captain
Ashwood to get the joke. He's a fool who gets everything wrong!

Loudmoth bigot Archie Bunker observes of his radical son-in-law "Meathead" who
is always overeating when he can. "If you were on the Titanic, you'd be
stuffing your face until the water was up to your nose."
On another occasion, Archie's airhead wife Edith says, "Shall I put the ice in
the glasses, Archie?" Archie, thinking this another dumb remark from his
"dingbat" wife says, "No, leave it there and wait for the Titanic to come
sailing by."

"7 Days" had an episode last week on a Russian sub testing new advanced
sonar gear in US waters off Alaska. They rammed some ice and got stuck a
few hundred feet down. Our intrepid hero (US, natch) deep dives to
prevent nuke disaster (going back 7 days) and tells them that they "pulled
a Titanic"...
