Hi Seth,

You chose an appropriate night to ask such a question:

Reported position, given by Fourth Officer Boxhall, was

41º 46' N 50º 14' W

However, Boxhall was mistaken. The location was corrected in 1990/1992
to

41º 47'N 49.55' W

The wreck site is

41º 43' 35" N 49º 56' 54" W

In about 2.5 hours, 87 years ago, Titanic struck the iceberg....

Actually, that would depend on your time zone. The ships time was 11:40, as
I type this there are 28 minutes until the time of impact, that would be
9:40 EST. The time zone the Titanic was in is two hours ahead of me. But
we get your point, you are referring to the time as if you were on the
Titanic when it happened.

I now her radioed position is 41.46N. 50.14W.
She lies a few miles from there. about 560 miles from the
Newfoundland coast. Her exact resting place is said to be a secret to
keep treasure hunters away. How true that is, I don't know.

It can't be that big a secret. How many expiditions have gone there to
scavenge? Somebody is talking.

Titanic wasn't in any time zone. Her clocks had been adjusted to noon when
the sun crossed her meridian, as was the conventional way of keeping ships'
time more or less in sync with their longitude. In GMT time, Titanic hit the
iceberg at 03:07 and sank at 05:47. Subtract the following offsets to
calculate the time in your zone.

It is exactly 0% true. Titanic lies in three pieces

Stern 41.43.35N 49.56.54W
Boilers 41.43.32N 49.56.49W
Bow 41.43.57N 49.56.49W

Please check your facts before posting.

Agreed. The time zone concept came a bit later. However, if you convert
her last position to modern time zones, it would put her 4 hours
behind GMT, i.e. the same time zone as EDT.

So last night at 11.07pm E.D.T was exactly 87 years after the collision.

Hey come on, why would people post if they knew the facts. Many people come
here to find the facts. But you are right there is a middle section.

half miles from her cqd position. which was east southeast of her cqd
position.she lies south of her original course and well to the east. i looked

The resting place was a closely guarded secret before congress passed
it's laws about Titanic artifacts.
When Titanic was found, Three transmitters were placed around the
wreck for relocation and there frequencies were kept secret also.
As of now, I'm sure it's not a secret since Titanic is now protected
by more detailed maritime laws guarding her from treasure hunters.
So, although my info was out of date, It wasn't wrong

shereen waterlily posted the following to
alt.history.ocean-Liners.titanic:

>The resting place was a closely guarded secret before congress passed
>it's laws about Titanic artifacts.

...This statement is inaccurate. What congressional laws are you
referring to? Ballard published the location of the wreck, which Tom
Pappas posted here, back in the 1987 edition of his book "The
Discovery of the Titanic." Titanic's location is not a closely
guarded secret. Ballard himself stated that on the 1986 expedition,
they were overflown several times by aircraft with navigational
equipment which could easily determine their position as they worked
the wreck site.

> When Titanic was found, Three transmitters were placed around the
>wreck for relocation and there frequencies were kept secret also.

...The location of the wreck was determined by a satellite fix, most
likely using the Global Positioning System. I believe the
transponders you're referring to were used as a navigational aid for
maneuvering around the wreck site.

> As of now, I'm sure it's not a secret since Titanic is now protected

> So, although my info was out of date, It wasn't wrong.

...You said "[h]er exact resting place is said to be a secret", which
it isn't. Therefore, you were wrong. Period. Like Tom said, check
your facts before posting.

Actually, no, she isn't protected, she is being raped and pillaged by
your buddy George.
Oh, but it's not wrong if it's YOUR guy.

Hi I just read the location in Ballards book too. It is correct and it is also
13.5 miles away from the original location.
