J. Bruce Ismay retired from the International Mercantile Marine in 1913.
Surviving the Titanic disaster mad him extremely unpopular with the public. He
spent his remaining years at his homes in London and Ireland living a fairly
reclusive life. He died in 1937.

Mr. Ismay came from my home town. I include some information on my web
site.

He was exiled from society and died at his American home sometime before the
Great Depression.

Hey Simon if you are wondering about JB Ismay inTitanic an illustrated
history by Don Lynch he goes into great account about Ismays postulated
accounts and in a postscript explains how he lived out his final days until
1935, by forbidding people around him to ever mention Titanic. I bet he
wished on more than one occasion that he could take back his choice and go
down with the ship. Or perhaps he wished he had masqueraded in some heroic
action so that scorn and derision didn't follow him to his death? Any
thoughts? Jay
