When will we see a middle range priced laptop with 1 TB or more of
hard drive memory that retails for anywhere from $500 to $900?

Within the next five years.

Within the next ten years: PDAs and cellphones with that much memory.
Whether the price is lower depends on the rate of inflation.

1TB of storage in a laptop hard drive is one miracle in advanced
magnetic engineering away, and we seem to get one such miracle every
couple of years. The first half-terabyte drives shipped in laptops
around Spring this year.

So, I'd guess terabyte laptop drives would be routinely available by
Christmas 2010.

Hello, all.

I'm a new person to newsgroups. As far as laptops, I just bought an HP with
4GB of RAM (expandable up to 8), a 250GB HDD, and an ATI Raedeon 3200
graphic card. It was $850 at Best Buy, which, to me, is a great deal since
it has a full keyboard, a 17" monitor and a built-in webcam (I think this is
becoming a standard for laptops).

I'm going to be taking it with me to Cuba when I deploy next year with the
Army National Guard.

Having 250GB of HD space is still a big deal to me, because I remember my
Dad's 286 which had a grand total of 4MB on the HD. The 1TBs are on their
way. I can't wait!
