queen were furious and repudiated their alliance. mary was banished from
court and her allowance was severed by wiltshire. mary desperately begged
cromwell to intercede with the queen but to no avail, she was never allowed
at court. she and her husband retired to the countryside and lived in
obscurity until her death in 1543.
